I drove my daughter to work yesterday, her first day scheduled in weeks. Her car's in the shop (at last) and I still have my friend's car to use. I noticed as we took the turn to the reception center where she valets that a new Bottom Dollar grocery store had opened across the street. I needed to do some shopping anyway, so I went there after letting her off.
I don't know if they're a nationwide chain, but they are growing fast in our area. The prices are fantastic. Three-lb chubs of ground beef were $.99/lb with a limit of two chubs per customer. Yes, it's only 73% lean, but for $.99, I can drain the fat. I NEVER see ground beef that cheap anymore.
Hot dog and hamburger buns were $.99 each. Campbell's canned condensed soups were $.48 each. Their brand of crispy raisin bran was $1.79 as was their version of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Brand name cereals were $2.50. Large eggs - $.99. I've had the raisin bran before and it is just as good as Kellogg's.
You bag your own groceries there, either buying your own bags, bringing your own bags or using the empty product boxes they provide. I brought home three boxes full of groceries, a large bag of cat litter and two 2-liter bottles of soda that were $.59 each. I spent less than $60.00.
Have you heard of this store? Have you been to one yet? What do you think of them?

No have not heard of that store but it sound like price rite. It's a groceries store in R.I. That has a lot of the same prices as you said. I think it's a good store and it helps a lot of people save money on food. This is hard to do Today.

Hi,
This sounds similar to No Frills that we have in Canada. You bag your groceries you can buy a plastic bag for 5 cents or a canvas bag for $ .99 You really got a good deal on your items. But tell me what are chubs?? Also on the condensed soup and eggs. I pay twice as much for those at No Frills.

A chub is a bundle of meat wrapped in plastic with the ends crimped with metal clips. You'll see sausage packed like this often, but in 1-lb chubs. Ground beef is usually packed in 3-lb and 5-lb chubs. The packages are air-tight, so the meat lasts a bit longer before being opened. While I prefer fresh ground beef, for the price of these, I couldn't pass them up.

We do not have those around here that I have seen. The only thing close is an Aldi store. I still have to drive a half hour to go to one of those. I do not think the meat is quite that cheap. The other prices are somewhat comparable. The self service is the same as well. It is good to save whenever you can.

I agree that Aldi's meat isn't lower priced like their other foods. The same is true with Bottom Dollar. I checked out their meat prices because I was hoping to pick up a roast, but I've seen them cheaper. But, when I spotted that ground beef special, I grabbed as many as they allowed me to have. Meats are the hardest thing to discount, I think. I love Aldi's. I don't get there as often as I'd like.
