Me and my husband were thinking about changing some proverbs. We came up with 'a stitch in time saves embarrassment' and 'too many broths spoil the cook'. A friend said 'a bird in the hand is a messy plan'. Can anyone suggest others or even make up totally new proverbs relevant to the 21st century?

I could think of a few myself. “The darkest hour is just before the shower.” That one is true for anyone else who has a dirty job. Coal miners come to mind. How about “Do unto others as you would have them do unto your child.” I find that many people care much more for their children than they do for their own well-being.

That is funny. I like comical analysis. You two are very creative.
Seriously, if I can allow myself to be so, must tell that I have a bird for a pet and by my window wild birds also that feed off the bird feeder and look in at me sometimes. It is delightful really. But I have to say that my bird who trusts me enough to take baths under the tap water flowing over my cupped hands is so much more fulfilling and like proverbs worth more than we might understand in any century.
However, that said my little pet, yes, he is messy at times.
