Credit Cards for each Store you shop

I do have a couple of store credit cards, and there is one that I particularly like. However one of the stores is being taken over by another company who have their own name. So here I am in a dilemma. since the card is a point card, I get two points for shopping at that store plus the other two stores that are affiliated with it. I can also get the same things at another store, Walmart that has its own credit card. However the company that is taking over this store has its own credit card. And had I wanted a Walmart credit card, I would have gotten it in the first place.
So here it is, Zellers is being taken over by Target. Zellers is part of the HBO plan that also includes the Bay plies Home Outfitters. There is no Bay in our neighbourhood and I will either have to go downtown or across the city to find one. Hoe Outfitters sells bedding, furniture, but no drugstore items, or stationary. Walmart has its own credit card, but since I already have an HBO card, there is no need for me to get one since it will sell the same things as is sold at Walmart. I could cut up my HBO card, but there are thing that I can only get at Home Outfitters. So you see the problem. I will wait and see what happens. I do not want to get a Target card if the things I want are not available there.
so waiting and seeing what happens. Anyway I have until next April 2013. Why do these store takeovers mess up things?

I had kinda the same thing happen when Sears took over K-Mart. However, the two cards work in either store so and their point system to get free stuff still works at both stores.
So even though I have a Sears credit card, I can use it in K-Mart and when I buy stuff at K-Mart it goes towards my points for Sears which is good.
Thanks
Zelo

The saleslady said that it depends on whether they are under the same general management. I did not know about the K-Mart and sears card being interchangeable. Anyway we do have a Sears store here, but no K-Mart. But when we do get the Target Store, the nearest competitor would be Walmart that is closer to where I live and I do not have to cross a busy street with cars driven with people with their eyes closed to get to the new Target. I hardly use my Sears Credit Card - only for big ticket items, but since my stove still works, and I do not need a 3d TV yet (unless that becomes the standard) I see no need to worry.

You can transfer your Zellers points to Air Miles or other points.
I gather Zellers points as well....I do ot have too many points, but I guess I never thought about what to do with them. I am just excited about Zelllers being finished...I have always not liked that store...ours is always dirty and the prices are never the same once you get to the cash.
Good riddance, Zellers.....hello Target!!!!

We had no trouble with the Zellers here in my neighbourhood, but I suppose you would if you went to the one in St. Vital. Ours was pretty new and very clean. The trouble was that in order for us to go to the Bay, we had to go to one of the other Shopping Centres and that Bay was not like the one I grew up in Vancouver. There it was a high class, but the Bay here in Winnipeg is more like lower class. I was searching for a panini maker and a bread maker and had to go back home and get one from the Zellers here - I did have a gift card plus a coupon so got one of the top o the line for a middle of the line price.
I hope the Target is quite good here. I really do not want to buy anything that is sort of low quality. Will probably get a Target card just in case it offers a good points or cash back deal.
And if there is something there that I buy regular that I cannot buy anywhere else.

It's annoying when they change these things. It rarely works out to being advantageous to me or even more convenient to me.

I really like Zellers. I do not like going from store to store to look for something that I need. I could shop at Shoppers, but even then, well they have their own credit card as well, but with the amount of things they have there that I like I can get somewhere else and not have to worry what card to use.

It's not HBO, but HBC. I'm pizzed off that Zellers is being taken over by Target. I think I'd hold onto my HBC card, and get a Target card, just to be sure You never know, it might be a good idea to have one I don't go to Homeoutfitters that often, but I got a very nice can opener from there a few weeks ago, so I was glad I still had my HBC card.

Sorry about that. I was thinking about one of the shows on HBO at the time. I do ilk shopping at Zellers, and it does carry the things I like. I do not like carrying too many credit card, but feel I have to because well do not like when I pay cash and then can hardly read the receipt. It is easier with a statement or eyeing it online. I do not know what Target will be like here in Canada. I did get quite a few things from Home Outfitters, but they do not sell those collapsible measuring cups, I had to get it from Zellers, so I wish it stayed the same instead of Target tacking over. I do nt know if Target will carry the same stuff that Zellers have. Will have to wait and see about it.

I don't use store credit cards any more. They're just too expensive. And the points programs aren't worth it for me. I have one credit card that I use for everything. I get 1.5% cash back on everything I purchase. Nothing else can compare. AND I don't have to worry about the stores taking each other over, I still get to use the same credit card.
It does seem like all the big box stores are just eating up the little stores. Sometimes they will accept the other cards and offers for a while. I hope it all works out for you!

I have a bank card that I use for air miles, although I did use it for something at a hardware store. I use a points card at my main entail stores because that s where I do the most shopping, and was able to get a breadmaker, pay for two thirds of a dv player at another, etc. I also have a points card for a grocery chain and get $5.00 off each week -since I go for the things that have extra points, usually soups, coffee, etc. what I can store away and use when I am short. You have to be sure that you are going to use the products as well as the obvious, pay off each month. It is just that I have been very happy using my bank card for major expenses and my store cards for things I buy at that particular store, I mean three stores. I did have a cash back card once, but it did not work for me. My friends have one of those Capital One cards that they use for everything and it gives extra, like two points for everything, but they have to pay an annual fee for it, even though they make more then me. They had some outstanding debts. With me, I have no outstanding debts, pay off each month, but do not have a high income, jut my survivor benefits, and pensions. So scrapping the store credit cards will not work. And do not want another one. It will mess up my timing.
