D. Clark And The Mayan Calendar

So 2012 has people wrapped up in a mild panic attack. Many believe this is the year the world ends ... again. Not that it won't eventually. It's funny really but understandable. Just a curious thought crossed my mind. So D. Clark (RIP) dies in the year we're not supposed to have a New Year. Interesting indeed. For those of you who don't know Mr. Clark, he is the celebrity (host of American Bandstand) that rings in the New Year on live television. He's done it for eons of years. Any thoughts or non-thoughts? By the way, MyLot won't let me write out his full name.

Yes...I understand that if you spelled out his first name you would be bleeped. Silly, huh.
It didn't occur to me that Mr. Clark passed the year when we're not supposed to have a New Years Eve...
but you're right about that prediction.
Thankfully, that prediction doesn't hold water with me. I don't believe the world will end in a dramatic and tragic way in December. I believe things are changing and have been changing in a subtle way which may be "the end of the world as we know it."
Change is inevitable and often for the best. One change I've noticed is that many people have begun to take the law into their own hands.
Another change I'm witnessing is the fact that fewer people are entering into a traditional marriage. For many people...that way of doing things...doesn't make sense anymore.
Thanks for a great post and for allowing me to share my perception.

Yes indeed sherrybelle, it does seem things are changing and for the most part not for the better. It will be an interesting December.

Great post. It is quite ironic that the Bandstand host passed away at the year of his prediction - which in actuality was a ridiculous notion - prophesying that only God the creator knows.

Great comment powermannx! I, too, only believe God knows when our existence will end. All this hype, is for profit in somebody's pocket. There have been several predictions before and we are still here. He is the holder of this knowledge for it is His creation.

All those fun celebrations ... this will be the first without him counting down the old year and bringing in the new. They'll probably do something in honor of him this time. Should be fun to watch. Unless the Mayans were correct.

WOW! I hadn't made the connection but I'll just bet you put "End of Days" prognosticators everywhere into a state of panic, or in some cases pure joy. One thing is for sure, if there IS a New Year's celebration it won't be the same and never will be again.
Rest In Peace, D1ck Clark; we'll miss you!
(Note the "1" in place of the "i"...lol!)

Clever! I didn't even notice the 1 instead of the i. Now I know. And yes, may he rest in peace. I'm sure they'll dedicate the new year to him. Or something like that.

That is an interesting way to look at it. The guy who rings in the new year with us is not going to be here for the new year that the Mayans think is the end of it all. Very interesting. So D. Clark it is.

Let me say the world is not going to end in 2012, earlier also there were many such predictions, which never happened, one thing our play with nature and enviornment will end the world slowly..
moreover even if it ends can we stop it?
Happy posting, cheers.

You're absolutely right. If and when it ends we couldn't stop it. And who can predict such things anyhow?

Actually the Mayans made no prediction about the world ending in 2012. Their calendar ends in 2012. Some genius in modern times decided that since the Mayan calendar ends in 2012 that must mean the world will end then. No one knows why the Mayan calendar runs till this year and no further.
I think the Mayan calender ending is not significant in regards to the end of the world. I think the ancient Mayan's predicted that D. Clark would stop ringing in the New Year and because of that they ended their calender. Maybe Mr. Clark had Mayan blood. Has anyone looked into this? Evidently with the passing of Mr. Clark the Mayans don't think it's worth keeping track of time anymore. Maybe we should follow their lead.

Well it's sort of a good insinuation or a coincidence, lol! seriously, Mr. Clark, as i have seen a tribute to him, seems to be an icon in terms of the music industry as he have guested the who's who amongst the list of famous singers. His dedication to his craft is well applauded and admired. As to the Mayan calendar, i simply try to ignore it as much as i can, lol!

Mr. Clark knew his music all right. He could spot the winners. And the Mayan Calendar ... I find it funny that we're just finding out about now. Why wasn't this calendar talked off before. Oh well ... we shall see how it all works out.

I can honestly say that this prediction used to scare the holy moly out of me. But I have researched and read the Bible, and seen some shows on television that all denounce this prediciton as crazy. The Mayans were a bunch of guys with feathers in thier heads that came up with most of their predicitons basically high on acid...anyways what bothers me the most though is the amount of people that are profitting from peoples fears. You have people selling bunkers, books, survival kits, name of it they are selling it. And while I beleive things are changing I don't beleive that it's what was predicted by no means.

The irony of all the prediction is that the Bible warns us that people will try to predict the end of the world. And we are told no one knows and apparently we don't need to know. Live well, live according to His Word and we'll have nothing to worry about. And yes, it's very disturbing how people will try to make a buck from this.
