Common Question

Six hour cross-stitch - This little bit of cross-stitching took six hours, even though it's not that complicated in the least.

A common question most of we cross-stitchers get at one time or another is, "How long did it take you to do that?" Most of us can't give a definitive answer as, quite often, we stop and start on projects, doing other things in between, and don't really keep track of time spent on a certain project. Many of us will work on more than one project at a time. For instance, I have a larger project on my scroll stand, a little one in my bag that I can work on to keep from getting too bored waiting for my friend to finish looking at all the clothes in a store, and then there's the one I was working on at the policing station. Some projects can take years to finish. So, last night I did a small approx. 2" square design, working fairly steadily for about 6 hours. The result should be posted below. (I'm notorious for forgetting to upload pics after referencing them,) Looks simple enough, doesn't it? But six hours!?!

I know exactly what you mean by the infamous question. I crochet doilies, so people ask me the same thing. Some days I work at it a lot, other days I do not even pick it up. So, it just depends. All I know is that we do not get enough money for our crafts for the amount of time we put into them.

I did check out Etsy at one point, but decided it wasn't for me. Can't remember why, though.

Have you checkout out Etsy? I think it costs about 20 cents/month for an item to show. I look there all the time for pretty glassware etc....but the shipping to Canada is ridiculous!!!! So I don't buy from there anymore, but I still love to look at all the pretty things.

Post your items on your Facebook. Start a Facebook page or group with all your items for sale. Setting can allow the public to see your page.group, not just your friends. Good luck.

Thanks. I used to paint, too, but haven't been inspired to do anything. I did do two paintings in the last 11 years, but they were to order -- I didn't need to be inspired, the people who commissioned me knew what they wanted.

I know, I've been cross stitching at the Old Bakery during my shifts there and while I've gotten a lot done, some times it seems to barely be moving... sometimes I bead instead.

I hear ya, I've started beading a pouch for a friend, but I don't have the colors I might want to use, so I'm improvising.

I thought I'd do some stitching yesterday on the front porch and get some sun at the same time. Almost as soon as I was all set up, neighbors decided to mow lawns... So I packed everything up again and moved inside, did a couple stitches and a friend dropped by... Ten stitches an hour. I gave up for the day.

Well if you can't say how long it took you, then how the heck are you going to do your time reporting?

Time reporting? What's that?
