Some works for their dreams. One dream here of common people are attaining college and be able to finish it.
But once you've got work and earning; you start loosing interest in going to college. But I don't know for some. They're still upto the point in which they're willing to spend money attaining to college and eventually give up their work for it.
Would you give up yours to get the college degree of your dreams? Why and what are your plans?

I don't know but I already did loose my interest -_-")
I hate to admit; before I want to be a journalist on papers but when I got the job to work in a call center industry for 3 years; my excitement is lost and I'm not interested in going back to college anymore. I mean; who needs college when you're already earning for a living whereas the reason you're being push to attend college is for you to have a better work?
It really doesn't make sense with the Filipino's mindset. And so does my parents. Being sorry for being a blacksheep, I did apologized and continue working on what I'm loving lately. No; I'm not going to college.

Let me share to you my story. I wasn't able to graduate college, I was just one sem away from getting my diploma but surprise! surprise! I failed 2 minor subjects. Out of frustration and pride, I applied for a "temporary job" in a Call center, instead of re-enrolling/ continuing my studies. I was so proud of myself when I landed my first job, "who needs school when you already have a job?", I told myself. So there, I worked in the call center industry for 2 years, finishing school didnt become a priority anymore.. But then when I applied for a promotion, I wasnt able to get the position and you wanna know the reason? Because I wasnt a graduate. That made me realize that getting a degree matters, also my other batchmates landed "decent" jobs as HR managers or Recruiters while Im stuck as an agent just because I dont have the diploma to apply for jobs that suit my college course. So now, Im thinking of going back to school. Work can wait, cause once Im done with school I have more options, more job opportunities.

Sometimes it depends on the ones who are promoting. And how well you sell yourself among others.
I've been a assistant team leader for a year and a half. For once I remembered one of my questions during the interview for the internal promotions. I gave them a powerful answer; "My skills does counts." I am determined to be on top and not being able to attend college won't be a hindrance for me in being leaders that will motivate my team mates. I know how you feel about that discouragements but you can use a lot of choices for whatever promotion you want.
Check; "The Pursuit of Happyness" by Will Smith. It is a true story of Mr. Gardner. And yes; the happiness has a "Y" instead of "I". You'll see there how determine the protagonist was even he wasn't able to attend college and aim for promotion.

My son did not give up his work to finish a college degree. He works in the morning and studies at night. He was granted a regular status in the company his working provided he finished his college degree. He's so lucky to be given full scholarship while working. He's enrolled this summer in order to have his graduation this October. I'm glad he was able to make it without giving up his work.

For myself, education is very important. I can get an even better job if I will finish college. You also achieve a fulfillment that is not achievable from any other thing. You finished college and no one or nothing can take that away from you. While attending college, you can have a part time job. But my main priority is college.
But you can understand, some people don't bother to finish college anymore because they already have a good paying stable job. I think for them it is more convenient not to pursue college anymore.

Thanks for all your feedback, guys.
I'm still confused. But how about those college drop-outs who didn't make it to graduation but made riches? Do we still need education despite of those examples?
Great examples are the owner of Facebook, some people behind microsoft and locally; Lucio Tan and Henry Sy? I mean; the have already the money to go back and study college. Is it still going to be a personal choice to go back college? Or do you still find it mandated for everyone?

In their cases, I don't think they would pursue education anymore. There are a lot of factors. Maybe because of their age they decided not to invest time being in college, instead invest their time managing their businesses. It's up to the person if he decides to continue or not. If he has enough wealth to sustain for the future, then education is not a necessity anymore.

That's one great multitasker we've got! Nice one for you. You were able to pull it off for five (5) years. And I'm also happy for your two cousins. She was able to make it while working. Thanks a lot for sharing your cousins' experiences.

i already finished my college a year ago. and If i do not have a baby yet. i would go for another course in college. i still want to take medical technology. i know i would be paid more if i take another course. but then again as i have said "if i don not have a baby yet". well as of the moment i need to earn more for the baby so maybe i can go for another course in college when my baby is grown up.

Good thing you we're able to finish it before you had a baby. Thanks for letting us know about it. But I guess it will also be better to make use of what degree you have earned for the past years. Then that will be very rewardful!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about getting a college degree and hope to hear more of you.

I will not give up my job for a higher education degree. Since I have a family and I need to work so that our finance will be better. Even if I have a higher education, but it can not ensure that I will find a good and well-paid job. A certification is not so important in my age now. Whereas the working experience is much more useful for me to apply for a new job.
I love China

I just gave up on going to college for some reason, but I did not lose hope on getting a degree. I'm thinking of ways to get more finance for the family since our house is on a mortgage loan and we haven't paid for several years. Now we're in the danger of having no house to live at since the company can take our house anytime.
Now I'm in a business and I'm also thinking of getting a job to pay off the loan.
