Strange Noises That Freak You Out

This happened to me last night when I was hugging the cat before I went to bed. I always hug the moggy before hitting the sack! Whilst I was doing so I heard this strange mechanical clicking noise. At first, I thought it was the SkyHD+ box as it does update itself at times, making strange noises as it does so. No...this noise was different but strangely familiar. At that moment I looked up at the wall clock and the hands were moving round on their own. For a split second I thought we had spooks or something. Then I remembered...it's a RADIO-CONTROLLED CLOCK so all it was doing was adjusting itself i.e. the time. It didn't half freak me out though.

I always hear strange noises at night and it always freaks me out so I just try to sleep as early as possible always because I don't want to be the only one left awake at house at night.

I can see where you're coming from..it's not nice to be the only one awake is it?

Right! When all the lights are already turned off and when everyone in the house are already asleep but I'm still lying awake in my bed and whenever I hear a sound, it makes me nervous.

talking smoke alarm.hands down. my mom has one that complains when the battery is low,and hearing a strange voice at 3 am is startling.even worse, for the first few seconds when you change it,it yells "fire" and you can't shut it up.

That would SERIOUSLY freak me out, I've not heard of a talking smoke alarm before! We had a bog-standard one and it suddenly decided to hang from the ceiling, bringing the wallpaper with it and emitting..er..the alarm. All this in the middle of the night. Also, when hubby decided to move it into the bedroom (onto a table, why I don't know) the thing would be in bits and STILL emit an alarm. Currently, it's on the top of the wardrobe and hasn't made anyone jump for quite some time, not even the MIL..unfortunately!

It is so strange. I am sure it would have disturbed me as well. I am glad you figured it out.

Once I became fixated on the noise (I had my back to the clock, hugging the cat on the couch) I gradually began to realise what it was. No idea why the clock wanted to re-adjust itself like that but I suppose it would've been spookier still if it wasn't a radio-controlled version!

I fell asleep with my 2 year old son one night. In the middle of the night, he woke up and sat up. He goes "What's that sound? What's that sound?" with his hand over one ear. I didn't know what he was talking about because I was in half sleep . . . and then he says "Mommy, it's a cow . . . it's a COW!!!". I was thinking this must have been a bad dream or something . . . but then I heard the cow too!!!!! MOOOOO! MOOOOOO! MOOOOOO! And that was freaking me out because I was thinking what the heck is a cow doing here (we're on the second floor of an apartment). And as I finally snapped out of my half sleep, I realized that cow was my husband snoring in the next room - ha ha!!

I have heard strange noises before. But it always turns out to be nothing. I have neighbors on both sides, the houses are all attached. So sometimes they are doing something next for and I hear it. I don't get freaked out with all the noise we get here. I am used to it and it does not bother me.

You surely got a start at that point, especially I remember you have said that You live in an old house redolent of mystery and have talked about the goblin before in a discussion. If only John didn't go out to play billiards ball last night.

Well he did but the clock behaved itself, so it was OK.
