How to tell when eggs have gone bad

I just found this out today of how to tell if eggs have gone bad, without having to crack them open and smell them/look at the yolk. Fill up a bowl full of cold tap water(enough to cover an egg) and put the egg into it. If the egg lays on the bottom on its side, then it has only a little air in it and it is a very fresh egg. If the egg bobs up and down standing up right, then it has more air in it, but still okay to use. If the egg floats on the top of the water, it has too much air and should be thrown away!

I read that in a magazine once! I've never actually tried it because we typically always eat our eggs before they're expired. I've never had any issues with eggs going bad before their expiration date, so I've never really worried about it. Definitely a great tip to keep in mind. I will have to try it to see if it really works!

Putting the egg up behind a light or even a candle will give you an image of what is inside the egg. If there is a round spot in it, then the yolk is intact, and it is still good to eat. If there is none, then the probability of being spoiled is more than likely, and better not eat it.
