Much money but live poor

They have much money in bank account and much lands. But they don't dare to buy anything.
They wear old clothes, ridding old car, eating cheap food etc... They even collect waste to earn a bit money !
They still work hard while they can take a rest with their huge assets. Why?

I know old couple who are exactly the same with them. All of their sons and daughters are rich. All of them are staying in Europe. These couple are staying here in the Philippines for they don't want to leave their house and their farm. They have more than enough financial support from their kids, but they never spend them. They always work in the farm, and sell the fruits and vegetables in the market. They buy cheap food and clothing, and they don't want to eat in fast food or restaurant for they always say that they are cheaters. 
They always say that the owners are cheating people because of the very expensive food they sell. I believe they behave like this because they were born poor, and they don't want to experience being poor again.

They always visit their parents. It's also considered a reunion, and usually they also invite the whole barangay. There are lot of food, and they usually have fun the whole day and night. The couple always disagree with this kind of reunion, but they can't do anything about this. How did I know? Because my uncle is their son-in-law.

@Wittynet: I'm sorry to say that the old couple and their children are right. They chose a life which they like. They didn't live poorly, right? They can buy anything which they like. Maybe they keep money for the future of their daughters and sons.

I think that is how they got rich in the first place. I wish I were that way too but as soon as I get some money, without saving it for the future I spend them asap :(
