I'm making an exception...

My friends here knows my rule in accepting friends. One must have at least 50 discussions for me to accept them. I've made that rule last year as i really want people to be active here and the more friends i have that are active, the happier mylot would be. This is a community where everybody helps each other. But i think i might be making an exception. If a person sends me a private message telling me to be friends with her as she needs help on how to work things out on mylot, i wouldn't be able to refuse that friend request. Are you someone who allows exceptions or someone who always stick to your own rules?

Yes, I think so, but actually I haven't made any rules here. That is because I don't have much friends as you yet. I guess that later maybe I could do it. But it is better not to be much rigid. I find good your attitude to allow friends who need some help in MyLot.

When i was new here i didn't have that rules too and i just accepted all the people who would invite me. But later on i realized that i need to pay particular attention to those people who are active.

hello Toni, Unlike you i don't see the activity of the user to accept/reject friend's request.Who ever send me FR i accept it but when i see if after being on my friend list someone tries to bother me with those referral links to join their site i delete them from my friend's list.I don't know if i am wrong or not but this is my rule.

Some seem to forget that we have the 'delete' button which is just as easy to use as the 'accept' one is

That's right yes i think there is no harm in it if accept anyone's FR as we always have the option to delete them as well.

Hi toni! Although I follow more or less the same rules like you,but I donot mind making exceptions sometimes, if the profile is good.

I wanted to explain but somehow, I had to submit my response in a hurry. A good profile means - if a mylotter starts meaningful and interesting discussions and if a mylotter posts his/her comments on the responses received. There are some mylotters who start very few discussions, in that case, I skip those lotters.

HI sis!! Yes, before I accept their FR I will check their activity first. If they just want to get here once in a while then I will not accept it. That's what I did before. Now I just accept FR from those who frequently interact with me. Like if they keep responding and commenting back to my responds or if I always see their discussions and interested to take part of it. Then it will either me accept the request-if they asked or I will be the one who send the request to them.(^^)

For me accepting FR means I would love to receive alerts or notification of their discussions. I am not sure if people accept FR because they just want to do so. No ones like to accept strangers-never talk, discuss or have any interaction with you but suddenly you got FR from them. I have got many FR but I never meet those members nor I have talked to them..So I won't accept FR from them.(^^)

That really is a disappointment. It's a good thing that we could always delete.

You say: "This is a community where everybody helps each other". Surely it is the new users who need more help than those who already have reached 50 - as long as it is the right help? I accept everyone regardless how low their number is, unless their profile suggests that their only reason for being here is to recruit referrals to their other online sites. Certainly if we interact in their first posts and it is obvious that they need a rope then I offer one

I remember you offered me a rope through which i climbed high here.I feel i would have struggled if you had not helped me out here when i was a newbie here.

Thanks Diana its due to the help my friends provided me in the starting i am here as now when i see my past i still say its not that easy to survive here for a newbie without the help of users. And i beleive we must help them if we want them to really stay here for longer.

I don't really care much who they are or where they're from. It's their inactivity here that matters to me.

Hi toni... I usually accept all requests but take some time to recognize them whether there intention is to be a good mylotter or not? If i find them inactive for days after accepting requests, then i delete them as i dont wish to make a huge list of friends. Have a nice time.

Since i have a number of friends on my list, i find it a burden to accept and delete again when they become inactive. So i just don't delete, i just screen them first before accepting.

It has always been my belief that rules are made to be broken. However, since I've been on mylot, I've never made any exceptions to the rules that I've set for myself as to how I will accept new friends. Of course I know that if I refer someone to the site they are automatically going to be my friend on the site. However, when it comes to people that are strangers for all intents and purposes, I will not accept them as a friend unless I see that they are active on the site. In addition to that, I've never removed people from my friend's list.

I have removed one person from my list and that's because he was actively rude to almost everybody. My friends were complaining about him and i just have to remove him.

Hi toni The only glitch as I see in this exception is - non-friends cannot PM amongst each other. However, I do agree that this rule of yours has some greater implication for all of us. I too have restrictions and do not accept FRs easily. I always can but somewhere I feel that accepting everyone would only defeat the meaning of the term "Friendship". Despite me being here for over 3 years now, I have only about 150 of friends - many inactive and many gone. But I am still happy that the ones I have do have a greater meaning for me.

Hello Sid, that is true they cannot pm us but then they could just respond to our discussion and show their intent. In that way i cannot refuse a friend who wishes to become one on my list. You are one of my treasured friends here. One that will never ever get deleted.

Dear friend, I do not use your criterion for accepting the friends here at Mylot. Many people, just because they have found a complete answer, written by me, ask me for friendship. However, I did not initially reject and accept. Then with time I see, though many of my friends continue to be inactive at that point, I delete them from my list.

You don't have to follow anybody's. It's your own right. Whatever is convenient and useful for you use that.

I am new to Mylot, but totally understand your reasoning behind not accepting friends unless they have higher ratings. I'm sure people come and go in here all the time and you would rather only be friends with the ones that are sticking around. I look forward to becoming friends once I hit a 50 rating.

It's not a rating actually. It's just the number of discussions. The number of stars you have is the rating. I'm not into the ratings actually. I just want to see people are active because I don't want my contacts to be full of people who are not.
