Let's face it, being sick is part of life. Some people would enjoy good health a good part of their life, but even those lucky once would get sick now and then. Other people are even struggling now with terminal diseases or diseases that are making it difficult to enjoy life. Imagining those types of people, do you think they still can have enjoyment in life?

Yes, being one of those people who have had to deal with a lot of Health issues over the yrs. I feel it is possible to enjoy life even in the Bad days. Overall, I really wish I could have one of the lucky ones to never experience anything bad Health wise, but due to being Diabetic, etc. there is a lot of things I have to face, and feel that I am becoming a much stronger better person because of them.

Yes, that is the Truth. We do become more understanding and actually concerned and feel we can relate more with people in what they are going thru. For me it frustrates me when I see things and then the person tends to not want to listen, and think they are OK. Makes me wonder what change can happen to make the wake up and listen. But that is where our experience will help them out more in the end.

Yes, I can't imagine someone having real concern for other's pains when that person never experienced pain himself. It's probably similar to the principle 'you can't give what you don't have'. I wish you better health, KrauseHome and I feel you face your condition courageously.

I also hope it's possible for us to live without any kind of illness in this world, but I feel everyone of us have our own physical defects and weaknesses. In my family alone, there are a lot of physical difficulties that we each face. There are those who are also diabetic, has chronic pain due to U.T.I., weak nerves, etc... and I think your attitude is a good model on how we should think of our own physical limitations...to think of them as something that would only strengthen us and help us be better humans. I also believe in the value of sacrifice and suffering, because without them we would be like tender babies...unable to face the difficulties of life and staying weak and immature. When we learn how to deal with any types of sufferings, we develop more patience and inner strength and at the same time we open up our hearts in more sympathy to others who are suffering as well.

Yes, it is still possible to enjoy life in bad health. But it will be hard because you are struggling and you don't feel very good when you're sick. Do what you wanted to do when you're still healthy.

I also think that's one of the most difficult part of being sick...and that is feeling terrible. How can one feel happy when one feels so terrible? I think it's still possible depending on how the sick person thinks of his situation. If he probably says to himself constantly "I am a miserable dying man and nothing can change that", then I don't think his thinking will help him feel better about his condition, but if he says to himself "even if I'm feeling terrible, I know there is there is a good reason for my illness. If i get well, I could even inspire those people who have the same illness as mine! I still have loving people around me and I would fight the battle for them." With this attitude, it's more likely that the sick person would have consoling thoughts as his companion...thoughts of hope and courage.
It's a good reminder that you gave to enjoy life while you're in good health. I hope you continues good health in your lifetime, jvincent.

I am starting my healthy lifestyle now. Right now, I start making good choices in the foods that I eat. Exercise and jog every morning. So that when I get older, I'll still be strong and healthy.

According to me I am not able to enjoy the days when I have a simple disease. I am not able to have a good time with my friends or with my cousins even when I have a simple head ache or a fever. I don't know why I can't stick to the environment when I have any health related problems. I tried my best to stick with the surroundings but I cannot.

I guess that could be everyone's sentiments as well, thewonderboy. I myself feel the same when whenever I'm sick. So maybe one good thing we could add in this discussion is to give some suggestions and tips in the best and fastest ways of feeling better when you're down due to ill health. It's obvious now that it's almost impossible to be happy in ill health.
If I have a fever, for example, the best ways for me to get better is to eat a lot even if the taste doesn't feel good while at the same time taking a large dose of Vitamin C, particularly the ascorbate type and my family's favorite would be Fern-C which is the most effective we have tried so far. For example, my dad is already 75 years old and he gets sick easily and when we give him about 15 capsules of Fern-C in one day, the next day he's back to normal. That's how effective Fern-C is in dealing with fever.
We could probably continue this discussion with different types of illness and some good remedies for them. Anyone have other good remedies for fever or other types of illness?

I see your point, jinky. I think no one in the condition of having a terrible toothache can be happy or feel calm and relaxed no matter how he or she tries. LOL. Which leads me to conclude that it probably depends on what kind of ill health a person is facing. Some illness won't give you a lot of pain like a toothache does, but they do wreak havoc on the overall health of the person, probably making his body weaker and weaker as one example. In this case, that illness would be more bearable but later on if that person won't get better, that illness might become fatal.
Anyway, I think all kinds of illness has their own kinds of discomfort. Basing on the comments of mylotters in this post, it's getting clear that most of us fell it's difficult to be happy with such condition, but I guess it's very possible to feel consoled and feel good once in a while.

I agree, everyone needs to live a healthy lifestyle. Now if one gets ill, then he should do everything in his power to get help and healing. If it's a difficult illness, then I also believe he should maintain a positive and joyful attitude which would lead to faster healing. Having a clear mind, that person would have the best chance of finding out the best directions to take towards a better health :)

They say that enjoying life is a mindset, but since most of us don’t have the luxury of escaping to some mountaintop temple to follow our bliss, the best way to find happiness is to make practical, everyday changes. It’s a big yes to enjoy life even you have a bad health, you knows how long your stay in this earth.

I say Amen to that, honest_efforts. We face all our challenges and difficulties and hold them in our hands and say 'these are the things that gives spice to my life and only makes me a better and stronger person.'

The best things to have in life are happiness, good luck and good health. I think if very sick it is challenging to enjoy life. Having a terminal disease would be very scary, worrying and miserable. Sometimes medicine can be taken to control pain so that is welcome and appreciated. In November and early December I had a severe tooth pain. In the end I got the courage to go to the dentist and have that rotten tooth taken out. Afterwards I felt so happy and not in pain anymore. It is not possible for most people to get rid of what is hurting them though.
In 2009 my baby daughter was born and I lost two and a half liters of blood. I hated being in hospital so weak and nearly dying. I had the joy of seeing my baby daughter. I felt frail, in pain and exhausted. It was hard to totally enjoy life. My recovery happened slowly and took months. Good luck to all the people that have bad health.

This is why I think health is really wealth, because in bad health it would really be difficult to enjoy life and be happy. So it becomes very important to get help the moment you get sick...and better still to find a healthy lifestyle that would keep us in good health and keep us away from being very sick. For me, prevention is always better than the cure.
Anyway, if a person is already in a state of bad health for him to be happy he needed to deal with the sickness the best way possible. It could be finding the best doctors, researching for the best cure, and I think rearranging his whole lifestyle habits which in the first place could have caused his illness.
It's becoming clear to me that being in a state of illness makes it difficult to be happy, so for a sick person to be happy he needed to deal with the sickness and get relief as the illness gets cured or at least his condition gets better for him to feel better.
