i reckon that Stephen King's Gunslinger Series is his best work ever. I can even compare it favourably to the 'Lord of the Rings' by Tolkien.
The characters, the descriptions of person and place, the plots, the sub-plots - are perfectly crafted.
A work of art? King's best ever work?
What do you think?

I'm halfway through it now--I had to go back and read Salem's Lot before I finish. His best? Probably. What I like about King is that he just starts writing, and doesn't stop until his whole idea is out on the page. I can also see that that's what some people hate about him: getting the sense that he's rambling, improvising, and generally not editing himself.
Whatever. I love it. That's how I try to write. And in this, like in the Stand, he just lets loose with ever crazy idea in his brain. Some of it falls a little flat...I got a bit bored during the Susan backstory...but most of it is truly riveting.

I loved the Dark Tower series and I felt betrayed at the end of it, gaah I should have never of read the ending of it but alas it was the only way it could've ended. I read it last year during school and I don't know if I'll be able to replace the great aura of good writing it gave me during the school year this year. Was it his best? It was the best book series ever written :)
