This year, where I live, we have had an early spring. About five years ago we had snow around this date. All my fruit trees have heavy fruit on already. Everything is blooming. One big difference this year is tons of butterflies in my neighborhood. Most of them are Red Admirals, with a few Sulphurs and a few Viceroys as well. My neighbors were running their air conditioning at the end of February. I will enjoy things as they come, and be happy however things turn out. I will say that pollen allergies are more pronounced this year as well. What kinds of differences have you noted this year?

We had an early spring here, too. The plum tree is finished blooming and has lots of baby plums on it, but the apple tree is just about to finish blooming. The lambsquarter, which is a summer plant, is already up.
It was a very dry and warm winter, but we're getting a few spring rains now. I just hope the summer isn't as hot as things now seems to indicate. I'm trying to take advantage of the nice weather while we have it!

It sounds like you are having some of the same type weather we are. I am glad to see the butterflies, knowing that they are helping with the pollination. I do not enjoy it when it gets too hot.

We have not usually had this many butterflies, but I sit and watch them even landing on the neighbor's roof. It is strange to see so many, but I love it.

We have had a very mild winter, I might have worn my winter jacket once or twice, but really only a lighter jacket would have worked as well. Now for the past 3-4 weeks, every once in a while we will have a freeze warning that I hope doesn't kill off my berry harvest this year..

I am crossing my fingers that we are past the freeze warning. I have all kinds of fruit setting on. I have not gotten busy with a garden though. Hubby did plant some peas. Even when we had a little snow it was not really frigid. It sure helped bring down my heating bill.

Most of our utilities are community owned, so what is good for us is good for them as well. The heating--natural gas is the one that is not.

You know it's funny as I tend to judge winter because that's my "sit at home" season and I don't like it much. I enjoy the snow but not the staying at home. In any case, winter was a lot lot lot milder, and I mean that we had TWO snow days only and the snow melted by 2 pm on both days. This spring started off great, we've had a few summer like temperatures. It's beautiful out there now.

I sit at home when it gets too hot, but I probably will not this year. We had lots of days over 100 last year and they started early. We had very little snow as well this year.

We had 90 degree weather a few weeks ago, now we have snow again. Yesterday sleet and hail! Today just yucky rain, which is usual for this time of year. The 90 degree weather was record setting though. The snow isn't. One year when I was a kid we had snow on Mother's Day. I remember well because that was also my birthday.

Last year about Mother's Day weekend, which is a local festival weekend, it was cold enough I thought it would snow. It is 91 right now here. A little early, but I want the warmth to ripen the cherries quickly.

wow reading over this really makes me wonder whats happening.because winter before this last was very very cold for the desert of AZ. we even lost a little desrt tree. then this past winter wasnt to bad at all. already its reaching triple digits of heat. 101 degrees yesterday. son says they have predicted the hottest summer yet. global warming after all you think?

I do not buy into global warming so much even yet. I think that weather always goes in cycles. We had a couple of snowy Aprils, and cold in May last year. I am pretty glad it is warm this year, but glad we have not hit hundreds yet. We reached 100 at the end of May last year even though the first of the month was very cold.

We have the same happen like what happen in there.
The only different is, its should a dry season.
But its still rain in here.
The weather have change 2 or 3 month, usually we get 6 month dry and 6 month rain.
Now, we got 8 to 9 rain for this 2 year.
While before that we get 9 month horrible dry season.
Global warming have change everything, just hope "The Day After Tomorrow" won't happen.

It is interesting to hear what is going on in other places. So you have had extra rain for the last two years? I think we are having pretty normal rain this year, but it was a drought last year.

As far as I remember, the weather have started to change since 4-5 year ago.
If not dry then we got rainy 2-3 month that usually.
So when we got dry season, most of areas will out of water and forest get burned.
When we got rainy season, most of areas will get flood.

Didn't really notice a difference this year, because my vision isn't good enough to really notice one. However, I've noticed that we barely had a winter, so the one difference is that I have not had snow in my way for months and months on end, and no ice to flip on. LOL

No ice is certainly a plus in my book. We had a mild winter as well. It helps with the heating bill. We needed more moisture, but I think we are on track now.

funny, i said the same thing to my hubby the other day as i was putting away some winter stuff. living in Canada, you expect the worst and hope for the best during the winter and because this winter was so mild, i barely wore some of my heavier sweaters (but i don't want to get rid of them because who knows what next winter will bring?!)
same is true in the summer. some have been super hot and others have been on the cooler side.
living here, you need a vast wardrobe because you never know what weather is around the corner!

I can imagine. I have a huge wardrobe, based both on climate and on fluctuating sizes. I got the shorts out for a while then I had to go back to warmer clothes. It seems that more people are having colds and allergies as a result.

It is interesting how different the weather can be from one year to the next. April 27th the year I got married was a gorgeous day absolutely beautiful. I dont think any year since then has been nice weather. I will have to see in a few days when the 27th rolls around how the weather is this year. I think it will likely be chilly. I remember in 2003 it was warm enough I wore a tank top that day.

We had ten inches of snow the week I got married on March 21, and we have had everything in between ever since then. I remember snow twice in April. Last year it was cold enough to snow the second week in May, but it did not. I am enjoying this year. We will be fairly warm tomorrow.

Sounds like some pretty butterflies. We have hail storms here alot in the Spring. I started a discussion about it. Right now we are having several days of rain. It was really coming down alittle bit ago. I almost felt a need to turn on the A/C here the other day with the temperature up about 80 and now we are in the mid 50's. It will warm up by Sunday again. But I do love it cool like this and plan to enjoy it while I can.

80 is in my favorite range. It is when we get to 95 and above that I have some issues. It depends on the humidity as well. It sounds like you are having your share of it. Hail can be pretty damaging and scary.

I live in a tropical country.
This year the weather is much better compared last year.
Summer is also late for this year which starts late April when it should be at the end of February or early days of March.
It's good anyway since the weather is too hot when it is summer.
And- it seems that rainy days are about to come early too.
Today the weather is gloomy and we thought it's going to rain.
Rainy days usually starts by June- but with this hot weather, everyone is wishing it would rain soon.

I wish I haven't noticed any differences this year. That's because we have an early... summer. The temperatures are similar to those in the middle of July and we are only at the beginning of May!
I don't like when it's hot outside and I miss the springs we used to have when we were children.
I also noticed a few butterflies in the field but I don't think it's something healthy. It is too early for them, I'm afraid.

If their normal food flowers and plants are blooming it should be okay for the butterflies. Yes, we have had more heat than usual, even coming off a warm winter. I have ripe cherries to pick right now.

It's really weird. All winter was like spring. I wore a coat about 4 tomes the whole winter. Never had to use the heat. Now in spring I'm having to use heat in the morning.
Allergies have been rough for me.

Well I do think we had a much shorter Winter this year. It's already been warm enough for people to go swimming and last year I didn't go swimming until the end of May. I was still mostly wearing a light jacket this time last year more often but then again I get cold easy. We pretty much didn't even have a Winter according to some.
I just hope this year though will not be a repeat of last year when it comes to bad weather. Friday the 27th will be the 1 year anniversary of the tornado that came through my town destroying many homes and businesses and sadly taking lives.
I have a feeling though our summer is going to be very hot and the creeks and rivers will probably not stay cool for long. It sure does suck when you want to go swimming in the river or creek and the water is warm.

The tornadoes get very scary. We get them as well. Lakes say a little cooler than rivers or creeks. I get to go occasionally. City pools and splash parks are fun but pricey. I hope your town has recovered well. I know it takes a long time. We live in "tornado alley" as well.

Me again GG,
Just noticed that someone has mentioned Butterflies I have seen quite a few around here the normal white ones but I would much prefer them to those horrible flies and mosquitos any day of the week that have already taken up residence here early too this year.
Really love butterflies so I welcome seeing them all and am listening to the odd blackbird around here as well. Just today I came across a whole field full of sheep being herded so I made a quick exit from that path as I had my Dog with me even though he was on a leash but is was glorious to see them there and some baby calves just been born too.xxx

We have an area we can go to and observe bison, and the babies there are cute as well. I think of Cabbage whites when you mention white butterflies. I have seen one or two of them, and the sulphurs, which are yellow. The one I have seen most has been the Red Admiral. I even saw and albino of that breed. They say they come up from the south part of the US--Texas. I looked them up to see if the caterpillar would be harmful to food crops and learned that actually they lay their eggs on nettles. We do not have many sheep in Kansas, but we do have some.

Hiya GG,
Wow wish we could go and see that too. We have Bulls quite near to here but they won´t let you go and see them but we can see them from the Road instead although they are quite high up at different times of the Day they are lower down so you can see them better.
No cabbages here but plenty of Butterflies the white ones I mean the sulphurs are less common other than that have not seen any other kind yet.
Actually not that many Sheep here its just that one Man has them a lot of them and quite near somewhere and you can hear them sometimes because the noise they make carries on the wind.
There is a Dairy Farm across the Road and I was walking with our Dog to see if I could see a little of them and they are the huge ones our Dog had never seen them before he shot off like a rocket the first time he he he.
xxx

I never noticed anything different in the weather until late last week. It suddenly turned really warm. I can still remember going out last week wearing a sweater as it is a bit cold hear in the Pacific Northwest.
But about Friday it suddenly turned really hot. Last night was the first night that I needed a fan to get to sleep.

Hats off to you GG. I like the way you talk about those butterflies - you know their names!. Butterflies are no doubt a beauty to behold but before they came there were caterpillars which are deadly for any garden.
Climate change has become a global phenomena and India is no exception. My garden is experiencing it too. My trees are all confused. There used to be a pattern but now everything is haywire. I hardly have any mangoes this year unlike in the past and my bell fruit has finished its job and the tree now is bare. There was a carpet on the floor and these fruits have no takers as there are many here who have this tree. I use these fruits as compost after distributing them to friends and to my workers. I have loads of pineapples and my doctor tells me too many are not good but I just love to eat them. I have figs too and they are dropping with just a few that have reached maturity.
The change in behaviour applies to my garden as a whole. Strangely my lawn is rid of weeds as the grass has taken over and the weeds have no place to grow. This after putting in years of effort. I don't mow my lawn as it grows just about 8 inches and stays at that height.

I am not familiar with Bell fruit.I will check out the picture and search it online. I would love the pineapple. It is supposed to be good to help with arthritis as well as to relieve sore throats if you have a problem with it. I guess here there is no such thing as getting too many pineapples here in the US. I was raised in a family that knew nature and liked to know the names of things. I have a favorite nature book, and each of my children wanted a copy of it when they left home.

If you stand very still you can look at the butterflies closely when they are busy feeding. I then will either look them up online or in some books that I have. My mother was always interested in what things were called. My very early schooling we would do units of studies about all different kinds of insects, etc. Yes, it is still a while until we officially have summer we are having summer like weather. The converter I looked at online says that your 30C is the same as our 86F. So we are having really similar temperatures. I have a fairly large lot that my house sits on and I have made it a practice to plant fruit trees on it when I planted new trees.

You grew deeply interested in insects when you were a child under the cultivation of your mother. The way you said about differentiating butterflies and other insects is just that I differentiate plants.Since I cut my teeth as a Traditional Chinese Medicine pharmacist I am interested in plants all the time.
