So, I'm looking for a term or expression that describes for that situation when you enjoy doing something, or listening to something, but then you're embarrassed because you like doing it, or listening to it in the first place. The closest I have in mind is guilty pleasure, but I think it's more on you like doing it, but you're not supposed to do it. Any English gurus her to help me?

Why you feel guilty when it just because you listen to the songs that others may don't like it?? It is not a sin at all. Unless if it will distract or people get annoyed with it. But if it never give bad effect to others then you should not feel guilty over it. The term sounds okay with me anyway...but don't feel guilty as you don't do bad to anyone~(^^)

Well, that is exactly why I hesitate to use the term "guilty pleasures" because there's nothing to be guilty about. It's just that I feel embarrassed that I listen to and enjoy these songs. But, then, everyone has his or her preferences, so, I think I should just stand by my taste of music.

I am sure you use your headphone while listen to the music so that people will not hear the type of songs you listen to. You don't have to feel embarrassed if you do so. My favorite music is always different than others but who cares??It just for entertainment~(^^)

Secret Indulgence, or perhaps a secret sin would be phrases that are synonymous with guilty pleasure. Although I think guilty pleasure pretty much covers that defination pretty well.

I think I like secret indulgence! Thanks! It's just that I listen to a variety of music, and sometimes, I lik listening to songs that I know some people would tease me for listening (well, the people here at the office). And, goody for me I have my own office, but still I use headphones when listening to those songs.

I am guilty of listening to music that i know others won't like listening to glorycam .
At the office, most of my office mates are of younger generation. Hence, my music preference is of course somewhat different than theirs. So, i would put on a headphone too, though on one ear only , so i could also hear my boss when she calls me.
I must agree with rewardsinlife, that i would call it too, secret indulgence.

That's right! Well, maybe because we all have different preferences, so, one group may like one type of song that another group avers. So, in order to keep the peace, I listen to my own music. And they don't get to tease me over my song choices.

Have a look at the suggestion of Rewardsinlife above. I think it pretty much covers what I have in mind!

I don't see anything wrong with listening or doing something that you like to do. I listen to my music and don't care ho hears it. If its what I like then thats all that counts. Or doing something. And for me right this minute its being here on MyLot.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those who care about what other people think about. I guess I need to lose that attitude and mind what I do care about. Awright, I will start with my song choices.

That's right. I don't mind other people at all. Why should I let them mind me!? Will work on that.

Guilty pleasure is a term for something you know is not beneficial for you but you still like doing it. Like for example, I love fried chicken but if i eat it more I'll get fat. But since i love it fried chicken is my guilty pleasure. Hope you get what I mean.

Well, yeah, I knew that and that is not exactly what it is for me because it's not really 'not beneficial'. It's just that I'm embarassed doing it, but I like to do it. So that's the term or expression I'm looking for. Sort of like, you have a secret crush on a guy who your friends think is a dork. That sort of situation.

That's right. I guess I ought to adopt that kind of thinking. Well, I'm the kind who minds waht other people think. Oh well, to hell with what they think.

Oh we think differently than
If i have a crush on someone my friends think is a dork, I wouldn't be bothered at all coz you know everyone of us have our own tastes in everything, including men hehe!
Have a good day

The term "guilty pleasure," is already correct from the way you described your emotion. If you want to use other terms, though, you can use the following, dirty little secret, secret shame or sweet temptation. It depends on what activity you"re ashamed of doing. You can use the term, "dirty little secret", to put a naughty spin on it, "secret shame", if it is an innocent act but an unpopular choice for others and "sweet temptation", if you want to emphasize your desire for it.

Cool! Yeah, I guess the terms are good and apt. Hmmm... now at least I have more terms to use other than guilty pleasures. Thank you!

Guilty pleasures seems to express it for me, but you could try "secret vice" and see if that feels more like what you want to say. Or even "hidden vice".

Yup, that's right. So, that is not the term I want to use. So, I'm looking for that term for something you like but are embarassed to tell everyone you like it. Like my example above, you have a secret crush on a guy who your friends think is a dork. And you're embarassed to admit it to them. Something like that. Not quite "guilty pleasure", right?

I think so, too. So, that is not the term I'm really looking for.
