Good Old HR

Last Christmas my daughter was laid of from her job. However, just before she went she was interviewed for another post in the same company but had not heard the result by the time that she finally left. She assumed that she hadn't got the job and started to look elsewhere. After about 6 weeks of fruitless searching her old company rang her and said that she HAD got the job anbd xould she start immediately. Which she did. She is very happy and has worked there for the past 2.5 months. I was at home earlier this week when the phone rang and it was the HR department from her company. Would she be interested in a job with them? I said that she already DOES work for them. The HR man was perplexed. "No she doesn't" he said. "Well you paid her last month and she went to work this morning as usual!" He apologised and hung up. I emailed my daughter and she went to see the HR man who sits across the office from her!!!!! He apologised and said that he hadn't recognised her name!. Good old HR - always on the ball. At leasat she does have a job which in itself is a minor miracle these days.

No matter how you view it, it means they liked her work and would have called her back even if she hadn't gone with a different department. She's found a good place.

They are a chaotic company but very good at what they do. They raise money for injured military personnel.

I can believe you when you say chaotic, but it's still cool that she's earned a good enough reputation that they'd call her back (even if they didn't keep record that she already was back!)

I used to work in HR and we never got our paperwork messed up like that. LOL. Oh to be human. I'm glad your daughter has a job at least. You're right, it is a miracle to be blessed with one.

I worked in HR too. We never made that kind of mess either. Yes I agree she is lucky to have a job.

Oh my! what kind of HR is that? They should be the ones first hand to know who are working for them and this kind of mistake is not even excusable..lol she is working all along the HR doesn't know yet she is receiving the salary.. what kind of system is that?? weird!

He said that he had got confused because her resume wasn't filed where it should have been. They are a very poorly managed organisation yet they are also very successful and nationally known.

This guy is in the wrong profession! Don't you think he'd be better working in the taxation department? Royal, state, federal...doesn't matter. Any of them! Maybe P1kelet should take a day off, while you fill in, wearing your skirt and heels. Doesn't sound like anyone would notice. Or, she could buy a cardboard cutout of herself. Works for law enforcement, right?

Sounds like a great company to work for. You could just stay home every day and still collect a pay cheque every week!

It's a good thing that your daughter has a job. But what kind of HR is that? Isn't he the first one to know that she was hired? If I'm not mistaken, HR is the first level at which a resume is screened and then again the last stage when one is recruited. Do correct me if I am wrong. And you say he sits across the office from her???? And I thought Government organizations in India were crazy!

HR did offer her the job originally. This man is fairly new to the office but then again so is she. He was very apologetic!

That's too funny. Guess that's why it took so long to be told that she had gotten the new position.

Probably. At least she has been paid whilst they deliberated!

I'm glad your daughter has a job. I didn't know unemployment was a problem there--it's horrible here. With the unemployed, the underemployed and people who are only able to get 2-3 part time jobs our unemployment is approaching 20%, not the 8% that is accepted as official. Sounds like her HR department is very inefficient! I can think of several ways that the mistake could have been avoided. Unfortunately, many big companies are so impersonal that people are just numbers and not kept track of very well. I hope your daughter continues gainful employment and that she loves her job!

Unemployment is horrendous in some parts of this country although where we live there is relatively low unemployment, that said 1,500 people have been laid of this week in this area alone. HR where she works could be better couldn't it?!

hi pikey on my human resources wow there you also have the same goof ups too.? how funny and he sits across the office from her oh that's hilarious. At least he apologized and thats something.lol lol How funny.Yes its just wonderful now days to just have a job almost any job. I felt badly for my son as He g t almost full times hours doing electronic repair work which he had done in his twenties then went on to computer programmer at much higher wages now hes back doing the same work and getting only 15 dollars an hour. but he told me"mom a job is a job right now, and I have a job." Yes indeed and I am proud of him too. he made 30 dollars and hour at computer programming but thats past. we now take what we can get and be grateful too. our US economy stinks no matter now they try to white wash it,when the unemployment rates finally drop then I will think the economy is back to no rmal

Perhaps, if she had played her cards right, she could have had TWO jobs with the same company. With a little swift footwork to and from the ladies loo with a wig, it would have been interesting to see how long she could keep it up before HR noticed.

That's very funny. And unbelievable! (Although, yep I do believe it!) I'm glad that she has a job. And the offer of another is always good. She must be good!!

She's very popular and maybe that helps. Plus she has an excellent work ethic which I think that she got from her mother (and perhaps me - I'm such a big head).

He did a mistake not recognizing your daughter name even if she is already there for a months. He surely thought they are two different person. He should know that someone has filled the position though~(^^)
