I had one of those PanNovel readers and it initially worked great, but after a couple months, it wouldn't even turn on anymore. I know that Kindle is a more common reader, but also more expensive. Has anyone tried the Kindle Reader or some other kind with good results?

I have the Kindle since 4 months and works perfectly so far. And that's not true that it is more expensive. The cheapest model is only $89 and if you are not the kind of reader that take notes while reading it would be perfect. There are thousands of books available in the Amazon store, many for free. The screen is perfect - it doesn't reflect the sun and the battery life is pretty good too. As a whole I'm pretty happy with my e-reader.

Hello
I understand what your saying about taking notes when reading, as I am a note taker. However, it is possible to make notes on my Kindle Touch. I often highlight text as well as add notes.

Yes, taking notes on Kindle touch or Kindle Keyboard is no problem. I was talking about the Kindle 4 that has no physical keyboard and is not touch screen. It takes quite long to make a note on this one. I am also a note taker and that's the reason I chose to give a few more bucks more to have the Kindle Keyboard.

Ah, I wasn't aware of those differences. It still takes a bit longer than writing with a pen or pencil, but once I have gotten used to it, it's faster than I thought it could be. Plus, it's nice being able to use the computer to see all the notes I made, neatly organized.

I researched all the available ereaders before deciding on which one I would buy. Going into this research, I thought that I would buy a Nook, or perhaps even a tablet. I thought that I would enjoy having a reader in colour. However, after reading the different specifications of each, I realized that these weren't what I sought. For one thing, with these colour ereaders, if I wanted to read a magazine, it would only show parts of the magazine, and I would have to scroll around. This did not appeal to me.
I ended up settling on the Kindle. I originally did not think I would go with the Kindle because I wanted a backlit display, and Kindle doesn't have this. However, after my research of the different displays and the electric ink that Kindle uses, and the effects of these (ncluding back lit display)on the eye I realized that the Kindle was for me.
I wanted an ereader dedicated to reading and not a bunch of other stuff. I ended up buying the Kindle Touch in 3G. I love how the way I am able to organize my books and how intuitive it is to use.

I have the Kobo e-reader and I love it. It works great and has many features that I like, my favourite being the dictionary. The one I got came with 100 free books. As far as your less expensive reader goes, maybe it's true that you get what you pay for? I haven't really priced the e-readers as I got mine as a Christmas gift but I think the Kobo is in line with the Kindle as far as price goes.
