Give me your definition. I'm not just talking about paintings in museums, and I don't mean "Webster's Dictionary defines..."
I have a definition, but I want to hear yours first, myLot. Spirited discussion welcome.

I think art is anything that makes you feel inspired. when you make something creative and unique you should be proud of work because its art. weather you like it or not you can be inspired if you don't like what you made you can be inspired to make something better or change it up. If you like it you can have many different inspirations everyone's different.

My high school art teacher said that art is 1/2 skill and 1/2 talent. She also would never give out a numerical grade of 100 because, as she said, no art is perfect; what one person loves, someone else may hate therefore, no art is perfect. She really made me think. (I was an art honors student in high school.)
I believe that art is an expression of our innermost self, like the spoken word only on canvas. Naturally, not all art comes from what we feel as some art is created to someone else's specifications, as in commercial art. But, we generally tend to add a bit of ourselves to whatever it is that the client wants. This is what I call our own personal style which comes from what and who we are inside.

I saw a meme on Facebook a few days ago that said something to the effect of if you think it's art, then it's art. I can't find it again now to quote it exactly but I think what it means is art is subjective and what one person may see as art another may think is trash. I think there are no real definitions of what makes something art. It is all just rooted within our own perceptions.

One definition of art for me is when I am watching a character like Seymour Hoffman in the film Capote and marvel at his range as an actor. His feminine air, his articulation, the range of his performance; pure art. You could put Clooney in that role and you would get your standard wooden performance. Not art.

For me, it's the best way to express one's emotion, whether it is a positive or a negative one, but a negative emotion for me is the best catalyst in making a piece.
