How do you make your Blogger.com features effective?

I had made one or two blogs in Blogger.com and find the site good, but the problem is I don't know a lot of things about Blogger.com like for example how to place banners or website links that works when clicked in my blogs and how to make other side topics in those blogs. I'm really a complete beginner with blogging and so I imagine you're thinking that the questions I asked are so 'rookie', but it's true. So I would appreciate it a lot if anyone shares their knowledge or expertise on this matter. I'm sure it would also help those who are starting out with 'blogging'.

blogger uses HTML. so if you are planning to put banners or pictures you can actually upload pictures and get the HTML link for the certain pic/banner. then on the box where you put your blog in the upper left corner there is a button that you can push to HTML, when it is on HTML mode just paste your HTML code, then go back to normal mode then preview your blog you will now see the banner.

In order to place banners. Just add an HTML widget which will be available in the layout section. And paste your banner code inside it and publish you banner will be ready 
. For adding a better template go to design and add a new template. There are so many, select an appropriate one that suits your content
