That's what I said to my son earlier when I saw him holding his bath towel...
"hey wait..listen first"
Okay, yes, listen first, I really mean "read first".
How many times do you take a bath everyday during this summer?
I know the weather is too hot and the least you can do is to take a bath 3-4 times or more.
So I told my son "do you know how many people are dying due to water shortage and you are wasting a lot of water"
Yes,my son is wasting a lot of water- he fill the drum (10 gallons) with water and uses as bathtub and he is doing this 3-4 times a day.
My son replied "mom,if I won't take a bath in one day, will they get the water? are they able to use the water that I am not going to consume?"
Fine-I know they won't -and how I wish we can deliver some water to drought places.
While taking a bath/shower and enjoying the fresh feeling- did it came to you how many people are suffering from drought?
Happy bathing time dear mylotters
jaiho®- shall I take a bath or not (feeling guilty too)

Hi di
Nephew thinks quite like me.
I too many a days skip my 3 bath routine during summers - just on the pretext - if I save some water, maybe someone else would make use of it. Unfortunately there are still a few lazier people who wont even turn off the tap once they start brushing... and they brush for 10 long minutes thinking their teeth will grow strong... On the contrary I believe it will ruin their teeth... try scrubbing a stone for a long time and you would see it turns to dust

hello sids,
Oh, my kids never skipped shower and baths whether it is summer or not :x
I even told them to conserve water and our water bills is soaring high due to their habit of playing inside the drum.
Imagine they are wasting 1 cubic meter everyday
Our water bill doubled or maybe this coming month it will be triple then
Regarding tooth-brushing , oh well,my kids do not use glass while brushing their teeth.
Instead use the faucet and....keep the water running while brushing their teeth....grrr :xxx
Okay, this summer is giving me headache,as well as kids (lols)
have a great weekend

hi jaiho a drum I do not quite understand you do not have an ordinary bathtub but a drum sort of like we used to bathe
when I was a kid in a big washtub and heat water on the stove to fill the tub but in my teens we got running water and a real bathtub to bath in or to take a shower under a shower head. This is like an oil drum quite large though?

dear Hatley,
Bath tub is not common here in our country dear.
For rich and famous- it is a common thing.
But for poor one like us, it's a big thing.
Back in my hometown- at my parents house, we have this bathtub where kids enjoyed a lot.
Here in out home, we don't have bath tub and yes, it's like an oil drum big enough to contain 50 gallons of water (I wrongly typed above 10 gallons)

Hello again amiga :-)
Oh yes it is kinda hot these days amiga, my sweat don't stop running in my back and as well as in my forehead. I always wanted to stay outside it's cooler than inside the house. I need to plant more trees in our backyard and all around the house for it gives natural cooling effect. Hehehe :-)

In the summers, I take atleast 2 baths a day. But I am quite frugal with the water. I do not take showers. If the need arises, I can take bath with half a bucket of water. I collect water in a bucket before taking bath.
It's a good thing to save water but as your son pointed out....just because we save, the people who really need it aren't getting the water, are they? What a sad situation!

hello SV,
That's really sad and like what other mylotter says, we must be thankful for having enough water during summers.
I agree- since we cannot do anything to deliver water to dry land/s.
thanks and have a great weekend

Oh Jaiho! You just won't believe it;a similar topic crossed my mind and I had already formatted it inmy MSWord document in order to post it today. Now when I open the site I see yours.A real strange coincidence.
Here too it is very hot and I take bath twice a day using the water sparingly.

hello kalav,
Wow,that's really surprising
I am mylotting when my son comes out from his room and with a towel in his shoulder I can figure out he's going to take a bath again.
The problem is-he is always consuming more than 50 gallons of water every time he dive inside the drum (duh)
Our water bills also increases- it doubles from the usual monthly bills.
same thing with our electric bills :(
Oh this summer is really giving us problem :)
Thanks and have a great weekend

That's like parents telling their kids, "Eat everything on your plate! Children are starving in Africa!" to guilt them into finishing all of their food even when they don't like it. Eventually the kid wises up and says, "Well then send it to them!"
Yup, people are dying of thirst in drought conditions. Honestly, not taking a bath isn't going to help them. Really, saying that is only going to make you feel guilty for what you have, and you shouldn't feel guilty for it... you should be thankful. There are other ways of helping people in ailing countries, like contributing your time and money to organizations dedicated to helping those people.

hello allyoftherain,
I am a a member of charity group for more than a decade.
I know some kids are too smart and thu their response sounds funny, it also denotes reality.
But, if only we can teach our kids to save by not wasting food and other things- they can also contribute to charity works at an early age by giving a share of what they have.
Thanks for sharing your thought and have a great weekend

hi jaiho,
Scarcity of water is everywhere and so i have trained my children to use it without wasting. Yes, they have a lot of questions but now they also understand about saving water as well. I am happy my daughter (14 yrs)was suggesting our society members to plan for saving rainwater (rainwater harvesting) so that can be utilised during summers.
Since childhood i have my bath in the morning and now i feel a bath can make me fresh after the whole day's work but i do take care not to waste..

hello viju,
This climate change is almost unbearable.
The weather is too hot that is why my kids cannot stand the heat.
We have an open space in our backyard and few tress where we stayed when it is summer.
But this summer seems too hot to handle.
We're scrubbing ice cubes to our face, arms and legs and that helps a lot.
Good to hear that your daughter is so responsible at her young age
Thanks and have a great weekend

Unless I do something like mow the lawn or exercise heavily then I usually only take one shower a day at night. Sometimes if I skip one at night then I will take one in the morning. I try not to waste water but really I have a well and it will never run out of water so there is no reason for me to conserve water. The more I use the water the more the pump for the well has to run so that uses electricity as well as oil to heat the water.

hello shaggin,
We use to have our own pump before and yes, it consumed high electric bills.
It's too hot here in our place that only taking a bath or shower will give some relief.
Thanks and have a great weekend

hi jaiho oh I take a shower for no longer than ten minutes as I get clean and my hair shampooed and rinsed. why waste water. some here do not care bu t I feel when they raise our rent its probably because some waste power and some waste water. although this past year has had a lot of rain so we should not have a water shortage. but some years we here in the US in California have had water shortages and people were asked not to water their lawns every day or wash their cars umpty nine times a week and also suggested to not just shower for an hour bu t just get in get clean and get out.at my age my legs hurt if I stand under the shower for any lengthy time.I get clean in ten minutes.

dear Hatley,
Here in our area we do not have water shortage, but in nearby cities they're having this problem.
I am glad also that we don't face water shortage here in my place, we are lucky then.
So,I want to teach my kids not to waste too much water.
They can take a bath everyday, but filling a drum that contains 50 gallons and then after using it, they drained it.
Then after few hours, they will again fill it with fresh water and dive in.
What a waste of water and also make our water bill double than the usual bills.
Wish you a great weekend ma'm

This also crossed my mind several times in fact.
We have a shower at home and my kids love to shower and they would be wasting that much water as they would play under the shower..and my hubby would also get mad at them as they are wasting water - well as for my care, it is reasonable as if i do not turn it on, some of the water will do flow on other people's faucet right?
but anyways yes i also come to think of this, there are also times when my kids would get a glass of water and the would not drink all of it, that also makes me mad and i would remind them to get water that they can only consume and not many as they cannot even drink all of it.
i do take a bath twice as well, one in the morning and one when i arrived home from work.

Oh well kids, yes again kids
They are lovely creatures that torture us (hehehee)
It's good to teach them how to be responsible.
But sometimes they're too smart and knows how to defend their wrong actions
Okay, lets have some shower with them and enjoy this summer as well

hahaahaha...kids are so lovely indeed
Make friend with your kids and I promise you, you will surely love it once they grow up.
My kids are more of a friend to me.
I do treat them like a friend, we jam, we sing,we play we go out.
We drive late night until early morning when it's weekend or when we feel like having bonding moments

Lol, I'd feel guilty too... even though I know that won't really help, at least in some indirect ways, the cost for them to get water won't increase because it goes wasted from excessive bathing. .

hello oxyde,
Such philosophy- or course it won't make the starving people/homeless kids full.
But,logic was there- not to waste food.
We should be thankful that we're not suffering what other people are suffering.
And that is enough reason for us to be responsible.
thanks for sharing your thoughts and have a great weekend

Your son can still enjoy bathing 3-4 times a day and still save water by changing the way he bathes. Teach him how to use a water mug or "tabo" in taking a bath instead of making a large drum a bathtub.
Regarding his counter claim, surely they won't get the water unused if he doesn't take a bath in just one day. However, if he is able to save on water, other people may use it as it runs through a water source. The saved water is re-directed inside the water pipe to other people who equally need a steady supply thereof.

instead of taking a bath 3-4 times a day when you feel hot, why not try drinking 1 glass of cold water everyhour to cool off?

hello gazinglady,
We drink water not only every hour but many times in an hour.
The weather is too hot that you feel like drained, so drinking water is a must.
Even if you're just sitting and doing nothing, you feel so exhausted and tired, sweating all over.
thanks and have a great weekend
