Taking notes or just listening?

Hello to all folks out there. Which one do you think is a more effective way of learning while in classroom lectures? It is taking notes at the same time the teacher is discussing or is it much better if I just focus on the lesson at hand and listen to it very well? Which style is better?

Knowing myself, i am bound to forget. So while i am listening, i take notes as well.

Every person has a different learning style that works for them. So it is important what works for you best. For me, I learned better by listening and understanding the lectures of the teacher. I only write key points from the lecture as guides.

Well, I think that it is up to you, you have to see if you are going to remember the things your teacher is saying.
people say that it is better to take notes, but I can't pay attention and write at the same time, so I listen and try to remember and as soon as possible I write the most important parts, I try just to write number for reference.
but it is in my case, for you it can be different, you have to see what is better to you.

As the lectures go you will see what is best to do, it can even differ from course to course. Some students just listen and ask their classmates to give them their notes that they will copy, but that can't be done in every group
If I know that I have a book I have to learn from and the teacher is explaining the lessons in the book, I would just listen and write down key points.
If the teacher is talking about his own research, or I haven't seen the books I need to study from, or it's not clear what the teacher will ask on the exam, I would rather try to write everything down.

It really depends on the person and the subject, I guess. I know about myself that I learn everything more asily if I take notes, I'm a writing kind of person, and I can take notes and listen at the same time. There are people who are better listeners and have really good memories, or can't listen and write at the same time (and maybe ask others' notes). I once knew about a guy who took notes in Geography and Social Studies with drawings besides the works (like when it was about agriculture and animals, he drew ducks and stuff :D), and he could learn it. I guess everybody has to find out their learning styles.
