rabies transmission but in reverse?

Okay so I know that rabies is usually received by a non infected animal if it gets bitten by an infected one but what if the not infected animal is the one that bites the infected one? would it get the virus through the infected animal's blood? It just so happened that my dog(which fortunately got vaccinated for rabies just a week ago) bit this cat that and Im not sure if it was able to wound the cat or something and there is no telling if the cat has rabies or not... Hope someone can help :D

All animals have a rabies but it depend on its severity of its owner, including man. The cat or the dog has a rabies of its own, even if you have given an anti rabies vaccine against its rabies. We also have some sort of rabies. You would be surprise to know when asking a doctor about it.

Where did you get that information?I have talk to a veterinarian who says that all animals including man have some sort of rabies yet it does not mean we have dangerous rabies.Would you still argue with my statement?

hello berting. so you say that a vet told you that rabies is in us but it depends if it's good or bad? i am a vet and i can say that in all the things that i've learned was written the same thing:the rabies is caused by a virus and it is transmited only from a infected animal to a healthy one. if you get the virus you can be sure that the future is not so bright, because it locates into the brain and no medicine can act against him, first of all because it is a virus and secon because it is protected by the neuronal cell. maybe the vet told you that all of us have the anicorps for rabies ,but that only if you were vaccinated.

i ment to say anticorps.there is no good or bad rabies.it is just rabies and is the worst way to die if you don't get the antirabic fast enough.

Yes the dog can get infected with rabies if he is non rabid and bites a rabid dog. It is the same way with any infected animal getting bit by a non infected animal. The shot should protect your dog, especially if your dog has had previous rabies shots. Usually cats aren't as infected as dogs or other animals with the rabies. Cats are more apt to run than fight. The biggest time that cats will fight is when they are cornered and have no other options. Do you live in the country or the city? Was the cat feral or tame. Was there blood on the dog's face or muzzle? I would say that the dog didn't break the cats skin. Cat's skin is much looser and with the amount of fur they have it is a bit more difficult to break the skin. Just to be safe, keep a close eye on your dog for the next ten days. Rabies has a ten day incubation time and during that time there are warning signs like excessive drinking, drooling more, and general crabbiness. I do seriously doubt that your dog is infected, but keep in mind the signs. I live in California and my county is one of the worst for rabies infestations. The top county is Santa Barbara county... So my worries would be worse than yours.

Hey great question! You know as this is related to blood it's got be just like aids: if they mess the fluids then yes he is going to be sick, just picture: the saliva will get in touch to the blood of the rabie dog so the fluids will mess.

the virus is not transmited through the blood.from the salive of the infected animal the virus gets into the local nerves ,and he climbs up to the brain through the nervous system.

So far from what i've learned about rabies transmission, that won't be possible. I learned that when animals bite and when they're just playing, no rabies would be transmitted. And so the cat being the victim, i don't think it would be able to transmit through an open wound.

in normal conditions your dog should be ok because the virus of rabia is transmited only through the saliva of the infected animal. in any case you should watch any behaviour changes of your dog. a dog with rabia will become more aggressive, will have a excess of saliva, he may develop fear of sounds, light and water,he will be over sensitive and hyperexcitable. in the end the animal will begin to paralyze, usually from the head muscles to the back legs. as i said normally he should be ok but you keep an eye on him.

Yeah, my dog is fine, I think she was never able to wound the cat. The cat seems fine too, it likes to hang out near our place. For some reason the cat likes dogs lol! Thank you for your input!

hi daydreamer! i also became curious with your question.i think there is a possibility that your dog will also become rabid.although all animals have rabies including us,humans have rabies.rabies are transmitted not only through biting and saliva, because there are also rabies in the nerves.ask your veterinarian what suits your dog and observe it.rabid dogs usually have symptoms like:fear of sunlight, fear of water, inactive, unusual behavior of the dog and lack of appetite to eat.
