Have you tried running virus scanners to check if there are any viruses that may be causing the comuter to slow down?
You may want to try defragmenting your hard drive and clearing out any unneccessary files to try to open up space on your drive.
Alternatively, if your computer is just naturally slow you may want to invest in additional RAM (Random Access Memory) which should be available from most good computer stores.

In addition to the suggestions above (such as defragging your hard drive), you could download and run some programs like CCleaner ( http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner ) and Spybot Search & Destroy ( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ). Easy to use and help you keep your computer clean and free of malware, spyware and other annoyances.

The ways suggested earlier works to optimize your computer but i would suggest that you use tune up so that you can do all that one in one application. Having low memory space is a factor to slow down your computer so be sure to have enough space. Try to uninstall software that is not being used already specially if they use big spaces of your hard drive. Be sure also that your hardware meets the minimum requirements, but must exceed it, of your operating sytem and other applications installed in your computer. If not, then you should upgrade it without doing any disk clean ups and disk defragmentation. But be sure to always check it for computer viruses and malwares. :)
