All of us I think wanted to improve some parts of our life. Some of you may want to have better bodies or better sense of humor. Others would want to improve their health or beauty. While others still would want to have more money or be more successful in their work. To change for the better, we need to be motivated to do so. What are your motivations and how do you motivate yourself to change for the better?

Everyone of us want to change from the present state of us always. If it is towards good target then the changes brings more pleasure to all around us. Such thing need motivation of course. Those motivation always get from our failure or our bad days. One who get up from their fall really get great heights always.

I agree that everyone wants to improve in their state in life. I remember I was unmotivated in my younger days and I just lazily let may days and years pass without giving myself any challenges or motivation. When I look at it now, I felt that it is due to laziness and lack of ambition or desire to have a much more productive life. In the later years I have suffered the consequences of this lack of ambition when I failed to achieve greater things, so it is lately that my motivation to better my life has awoken, and now I'm doing everything I can to be able to someday achieve my dreams of a better life. So advice to young people...start dreaming and working on your dreams while you're still young and energetic, and later on you would be happy with the fruits of your labors. Get clear your motivations now...i.e. I want to give my girlfriend a good future when we marry, I want to buy my own house early, I want to have a secure business while I'm still young and similar types of self-motivation.
Anyway, for me and others who have failed to motivate themselves when they were younger...it's never too late :D

I think that in order to motivate one self, there should be some kind of incentive. So whenever I want something finished or a goal achieved, I always set a nice incentive if I do finish them out. Incentives like a reward for myself through material things, pleasing somebody I like or even getting self fulfillment are the best bet for incentives for motivation. It is human nature, an individual will seek incentive to motivate him to do something. But if there is no incentive to get motivated, then, that is what I call passion already. Everybody wants improvement because of the underlying benefits it gives after. Works much like incentives too. Just my two cents in.

Incentives can be great motivators, because you will be able to get some rewards after you've accomplished your goal. this might be the most important factor to get motivated, because most people naturally wants to know what he can get before doing something and if he likes the reward to be received, then he naturally becomes motivated to go after it and do a good job. You have given a very important point, AgentGulaman.

Thanks for reading out my point. I do believe that incentives are the biggest driver of motivation around, especially in the kind of world we are living at the moment. Competition for incentives are high in this generation than before. I think that incentives doesn't factor much in the early ages before, but the role of incentives in motivating people is growing until now that it is the biggest factor of motivation.

I agree with you again, AgentGulaman. Maybe for those who are having difficulty motivating themselves, they could try giving themselves their own incentives by rewarding themselves, for example for working hard or for doing a good job. "If I finish this task today, I would reward myself by buying my favorite ice cream" and any kind of ways you can imagine to reward yourself.

I don't believe that you have no chance to getter better in the job you're doing now, because opportunities are everywhere and it could come when we least expect it. Anyway, I don't know exactly your real situation at work so I am talking in general terms. Good luck to you and hope you find the best motivation for your work.

I wish to loose weight and I was delighted to loose 4 kilos during my months trip to South America. I am afraid to weigh myself again. Though since last summer I know I have lost 2 stone. I think the warm dry days get me out exercising and on wet days I go to my local sports center.
I want to visit more countries and feel frustrated with my son's head teacher being so mean with days off school. He permitted ten days and so I combined these with the Easter holidays. It let us have a one month trip to South America.
I see my goal and work out steps to reach it. I have willpower, memory and a hardworking attitude. I have much motivation I am glad to say.

I admire your willpower and hardworking attitude, which I believe are the causes of how you changed for the better in many areas of my life. I want to have more of those attitude and willpower because I lack a bit of it, and if I have more of them I know like you I will be able to reach many goals and change many areas of my life for the better.
Anyway, I really feel you're blessed to have a lot of opportunities to travel.

It's whenever I see the problems in my life.
That motivates me to change for the better.
I cannot think of any other motivation than
thinking of my problems and of the things I'm insecure
about.

I see you point...focusing on ways to improve your life, and the only way to know where you need to improve on is when you are aware what your problems or weaknesses are. And the moment you are able to solve your particular problems in life, so seem to have grown to a much better person. Therefore your problems became motivating factor to improve your life and make yourself a better person...they became big challenges for you. Yes, problems are big motivating factors :)

I think health is an extremely important factor to be motivated in anything else we want to accomplish in life. When you have gained good health and well-being, I think you can be a lot more motivated in any endeavor you enter...because you're feeling great and in good health and great physical form, then it's just natural you will work well and most probably be successful in your work. It's difficult to imagine a man who is racked with ill health and being motivated to do his work or to accomplish anything..."health is wealth" holds true here.
