Is Facebook a competition?

Do you think Facebook is a competition? Do you get envious or even jealous when people seem to be having the best times of their lives and expressing them through Facebook? I saw a joking photo which expressed a version of "Facebook you" vs. "Reality you". In the 'facebook you' the image was of a boy, rocking out on stage with his skateboard but the "reality you' was of the boy with a beer belly, being a couch potato. Is facebook only the good half of ourselves that keep putting the standards high? Thoughts?

I agree with yu on that i refuse to believe that what people ut up as a front in facebook as happy people and seems o be living a perfec life... Is not entirely a hindred percent true. I believe that there is the harsh reality of people not living the perfect life theyseemto want to letothers see.

I see a lot of my friends posting things on social networking websites which serve no other purpose than to tell people that they have a social life. The number of people who take photos "for Facebook" when I am out with them is quite sad, and I just know that they're doing it so that people will know that they're having a good time. However, I believe that if people really were having such a good time, they would not need to be spending their time taking photographs and checking in to place on their mobile phone when they're supposed to be enjoying themselves with their friends.

I don't get what's the use.Maybe they want to impress people? Anyways if they had such great lives, they wouldn't be on FaceBook all the time..

Well yeah.People mostly use facebook to lie.I personally am not much of a fan of facebook.Because i can talk to all the people i really want to talk without using facebook and it is easier that way.And it is nowadays just used to boast. And most of the guys just log into it so they can get to know more girls.

i think facebook a commonly abbreviated as FB is not an expression of one's competition, but rather devote their feeling trough the social networking site...

A competition? I am just on Facebook to keep in touch with my extended family and afew friends. I guess you can do whatever you want to do on there. You can rebuff and such too. Alot of opportunities if you look at it that way. Putting what standards high. We can express ourselves and be who we are or pretend to be someone else. I guess it is our choice.

i agree with you. facebook let us create a picture of person extremely different from the real us. so sometimes i find people there so hypocrite that they are just showing their positive sides well, i sometimes do that but i try to be myself. anyways, who i am a fooling, myself right?

I agree that facebook is a bragging tool. You want people to know you're spending tea time at a very trendy place so you check in. You want people to know you're having fun so you post about it. You can't really expose everything in FB because the whole world will see. But after you've done all that, then what? One good thing about FB is that you get to catch up with friends from long ago. My parents are too old to use the computer, but some of their friends have FB accounts. They found me on FB and are asking how my parents are doing. They're able to exchange phone numbers and they were able to catch up with each other. Plus it's an instant way to keep people up to date. I created a group for the team I handle at work. Since all of them have FB accounts, and keep up with the buzz on FB, they're sure to see whenever I post updates from work or news from work. It's very handy to get the news out. But if you just want to have very stimulating thinking time, myLot or blogging is the way to do it. I appreciate myLot a lot because I can share ideas with other people from all over the place, and I get to earn at the same time!

All the people on my Facebook are people I know so I'm not jealous of anything but it does get annoying sometimes when people post pictures like I just bought this and was $500, This was $200. This was $50. Why point out the money? When people would know how much it costs without you listing it out.

I don't care how the other people's Facebook looks. They post a lot of pictures, showing that they are rich or not on it, it doesn't matter to me. They have their profile and they show whatever they want, i also don't have time go to see their profile in details also...

I say that Facebook is a place where people let out their inner personality (of course not all, I am talking in general) many of them post their expressions which they can not in reality, you can say like day dreaming, and on the other hand it is good to have friends on social media like Facebook, it gives them a feeling of being important.

I can agree that I only share a cleaned-up version of myself on facebook, but that's mostly because I have family on there, and employers can find it. I've never really thought of it like you describe, as a competition. But I'm not on facebook so much anyway, so I'm interested to see what others say. Good question!
