Grades are just numbers.

Are grades simply just numbers - When people look at your grades or your transcript of grades, they make use of it as a basis of your intelligence. When they see good grades, they automatically perceive you as a smart guy and vice versa. But do they really matter when it comes into the real world? How does having good grades affect your life? It is worth it to have high scores? Or is it enough that you pass your test?

Hello there people. Do you think that grades in school are just numbers when you go on to the world of real life. I have encountered so many grade conscious people. They say that high grades give them a certain sense of fulfillment and that it makes their parents very happy. Many strive to earn a high grade through academic or extra-curricular means. Certainly, a perfect score in a test is always the most beautiful thing to see written in your test paper. Sleepless nights are spent just to pass that science or math exam. A high grade definitely puts your efforts into a good result. But, do grades really matter? I mean, there are people out there who are not even good at school but when you put them into the real war of life, they emerge victorious. I have this neighbor who I know is the weakest person in his class, cognitively speaking. But now, he owns a business that makes him afford a good house and a decent car. I suppose that there are things in life that school system cannot certainly measure in terms of grades. Passing or having a perfect score in a test does not necessarily mean that your are bound to succeed. It is your perseverance towards your goals and dreams that truly matters. If you have the strengths to carry on and fight the downsides of life, then you are definitely better than a person who had perfect scores in all his school examinations. Furthermore, I think that passing an exam is already enough and that getting good or high grades are just additional bonuses. Please take note that I am not against schooling and school grades. I am just explaining my view about the topic. Do you agree with me? What can you say about these? Thanks for your replies! Godbless us all.

hi, for me yes its important but its just a numbers, because there are times that teacher is not fair to give grades in his/her student even how good the student are, like my experienced when i was in high school,i accepted that my teacher had a favorite student during that time, but its okay with us because still we know in our self that we were also good in that subject.

I agree- people's lives shouldn't be focused on grades.. But having good grades is still good too since the parents can see that the kid is doing his or her best and they can see the payoff of their hard earned money.

Grades in the school classes...those are in fact status ascribed to different students by the teachers in question. But the grading system do not in its actuality assess individual merits in its true sense. The creative abilities or latent talents inherent in a student could never be measured with the scale of Grading. Assigning grades reflect the external traits or active performance of the student in question. What measure could be utilized to evaluate the merits that lie inside the innermost recess of one's personality.

In some senses grades matter but in many senses they are not. They are rather an imperfect metric, as there are several things that are out of the hands of a student. For one, the quality of the teacher is one that really can affect the grade. I know this because two different teachers, teaching the same class, could yield two different grades for their groups of students. Not to mention, people don't really look at grades in school, as much as your experience in the real world and what you can bring to the table. Grades only are a deciding factor between two people who are equal in all other ways. If this other person had higher grades, then perhaps they may be the harder worker out there. In the end, it depends on the person and what they want to do, with how essential good grades are.

i always thought that no one can put a price on my mind and that is why i agree that grades are just numbers.no one can tell how much my brain is worthed. on the other side grades in school are a way to measure your interest for your education. for example i wouldn't wish to be treated by a doctor who had very low grades because it would mean that he didn't bother to learn to much and how can i be sure that he has enough knlowledge to cure me. there are a lot of cases on tv when people mess the things up because they just did a school because they had to and they didn't cared about doing it right. i also have school mates in university that are going through school cause the parents wanted and they don't lern anything.i would never let my pet on their hands. you don't need a school to have a job,but you need school to be a professional.

Grades are more that just numbers, it is who you are, it is your performance, it is a proof of what youa are capable of, and you will be judged by other people through it. so don't take it for granted and take it seriously because as you graduate and apply for a job, you grades serve as a mirror. By just looking at the numbers, employers will know what kind of person you are, what you are capable of, and are you qualified for the position. Low grades mean low chances to get a job.

Yes, I may agree with you that grades are only numbers, but this numbers most of the time are used as basis for your performance. What I mean is, it serves as a gauge if you understand a thing or not. In the real world, those who have higher grades are most likely accepted or hired by most company if he/she is applying for a job. But we can not say that those who have high grades in school are most like to succeed. It depends on the person's ability and determination if he/she wants to be successful in life.

The answers above mine are very good answers and I think I cannot improve on them because they all give a certain positive point. My answer to you is this - it depends on the perspective and the person. There will grade-conscious people and they will have their reaosn why they are that. At the same time, there are also true for people who don't have high grades (even no education). But I believe each person has a chance to prosper on their own and using what they know to improve themselves. I believe one person is no better than another because each person have their own advantages and disadvantages. It's just how you use them and how you deal with life. And I tihnk it will be a downfall of a person if they don't use their skills to improve themselves. Sometimes, I think that's it's unfair to compare a person with high grade with one with a lower grade because they both each has a a story to tell. Some people just don't bother looking in and just satisfied with the results. But if you account for everything, each person ash the ability to become better - and it think that s should matter most.

I guess it depends what you want to do with your knowledge. If you study something because you want to work in that field, marks can mean a lot. That way your employer can see that you are hard working and you know a lot. It's not that necessary in every field, but I would trust a surgeon less if I knew that he didn't bother to learn anatomy as best as he can. If somebody has a business or a job already, and knows what he is going to do in his life, just needs a diploma as a piece of paper, then it's not that important.

Hello Lauren, I agree and do not agree with what you say. I am a firm believer in letting people be who they are. I have 5 children and my oldest is a very gifted and intelligent child. I encourage her to do the best and that grades are a reflection of what her strength and abilities are, and that colleges and universities want to see good grades as well as extracurricular activities. If she works hard to maintain high marks her chances of getting a scholarship and accepatance from a reputable university will be easier to achieve. On the other hand, my son who is an average student has trouble in school. He does well enough in school to be acceptedd in college, but I know he does not enjoy school at all. I tell him to do the best he can because working hard he also can achieve success. Everybody is different and depending on the person grades do matter.

Grades, indeed are just numbers but they are very importartant in school and before finding a stable job. However, i do believe that, it does not fully represents what is your capacity being a student and being a professional soon. They just represent what is your ability in school, but we must remember that not school and teachers give the same grade even though you have the same ability with other students in other schools with other instructors. Really, grades makes me feel more comfortable when having them high but i hate it when they are low. I just remember recently, which makes me feed bad trip for that subject, my classmate, a friend of mine which is definitely smarter that me are enrolled in a subject but we do not have the same laboratory instructor. As of my observation, i must have a higher grade than him but the reverse is given. In this subject, i cannot say that he is smarter than me in this field so that is why i hate my grade. In this subject, it has two parts, the lecture and the laboratory. I hate that having different laboratory instructor is just so unfair. Their laboratory instructor is just the same with our lecture instructor. Now, for our grade, our laboratory instructor gave us lower grades than to my classmate which gave them a chance to overcome my final grade. Haha. No personal problems and hatred though. Haha. But now, i must show that i deserved better next time. By the way, my grade is still very high. LOL!
