If you never had a sleeping problem before you don't have insomonia at all.
Plenty of people have a sleeping problem for some period in their life.
It can be caused by problems, different life style (being up too late so your bio ritme chances), etc.
Keep worrying about it is useless it will only keep you more awake.
So tell yourself it's normal to have it once in a while and you will be able to sleep sooner or later. Make a scedule when it's bedrime and go to bed, no matter if you are able to sleep.
Write worries down, write down your thoughts (if you have them at night) and promise yourself (and do so) you will think them over/handle them next day.
Write everything that pops up in your mind down till your mind is empty, no matter what it is or how weird it sounds.
Don't drink tea/coffee in 2 hours time at least before you go to bed, have your heavy meals (dinner) at least 4-5 hours before, don't sit behind your computer or watch tv in at least the 1-2 hours before you go to bed (the light, also extra light keeps your brains awake). Relax before you go to sleep, best is in partly dark.

These were some of the things I would have also suggested. It is good to write down what is bothering you, stop the caffeine early enough, and do not do stimulating things with extra light like computer and television.

This problem has a root why you can not sleep right away. There are so many underlying
causes and my first taught was that you are a coffee drinker, then stop it or anything
with caffeine contents like chocolates, soft drinks and other drinks with the ingredient. You needed to take some supplement with Vitamin B complex so that your nervous system could be fix and you could now sleep well. You must inhale and exhale for 10 minutes before going to bed. Then put hold your hands and let it press in both sides for 10 minutes, then press all your finger tips just for 2 minutes, then relax and do not try to think about anything.Just put your mind not thinking just relax,
relax and you could realized that you are already asleep.Try it is very effective.

Melatonin is a natural hormone that your body produces. It is not addictive, it will not harm you if taken even for a few weeks. Some people take it all the time. I find, however, that I have very vivid and strange dreams when I take it. Foods that are high in tryptophan will convert to melatonin in your body.

You have gotten a lot of good advice here. I would add that some experts believe that you should exercise early in the day, and get some daylight outdoor time to help set your body clock. Other things that have not been said are to take a hot bath or shower about two hours before you want to sleep because as your body cools down you get sleepy. Reading in bed is good. Do not watch television in bed. To increase your natural production of melatonin make sure your room is dark when you lay down. Everyone has some times that they cannot fall asleep quickly. Do may sure it is not from something you have eaten that disturbs your digestion or drank that has caffeine. It is good to have a small bedtime snack, though because if you are hungry it is hard to sleep soundly.

I think that most people will go through periods of insomnia at some points during the course of their lives, but I do fully understand that it can be the most annoying thing in the world while it's happening. You should think about seeing your doctor if you think it's impacting badly on your life, because there are things that they could give you which would help. They would also be able to give you hints about how you could learn to relax, and I think that this would be something that would help you to be able to sleep better at night.

Some good tips that have helped me have been warm milk or tea a few minutes before I go to bed. It also helps to quiet your mind and just concentrate on the rhythm of your own breathing. There's also a bunch of general lifestyle habits you could adopt like eating healthier, exercising during the day, having a wind-down bedtime routine every night that lasts about an hour, and getting up and going to bed at the exact same times every day.

Hi jeanpr, since you have so many things to think about, you should wake up and write down everything that worries you.
Once you have written down all the worries, just tell yourself that you will find a way to handle it tomorrow.
In this case, you are offloading whatever in your mind that keeps you from having a good night sleep.
This method works only when the thoughts keep you awake, and you have no physical or mental problems.
