Would you collect junk and sell it afterwards?

I've done it before. And why should I stop?
It's awkward but nice. One thing that keeps me going there to the junk shop selling paper stocks and PET bottles is that in a littile way; I'm saving the environment. And why not turn your trash into money?
It's awkward AND weird. Like why would you do that? Most of the hobo's are doing the "pangangalakal" or rubbishing and selling the collected trash and stuff. I sail; "for once you will do it if you want to earn money out of nothing."
It's awkward AND pain in the butt to segregate and organizing it in the yard and in the garage if you're collecting large amounts. My dad is now doing that from the way he had seen me doing it because one fine morning he saw me taking out a lot of PET bottles from my room and I went back home with Php100 (around $2) and it made him thing that if his motor bike's gas costs Php60 a liter; then collecting trash will earn hime about 2-3 liters of gas for 5 days traveling back and forth fethching my brother to and from school. When segregating I end up spending 1-2 hours separating the paper ones from the cans and PET bottles. But I end up being happy every time.
Who among here had a "backyard" junk shop? Raise your green thumb (and answers or thoughts) here in this discussion.

Yes, we also have one here, backyard junk shop. We consume lots of canned goods and bottled drinks with our meal and it produces lots of junk tin cans and empty plastic bottles. We usually put them in a dirty sack, sell them to junk shops nearby.

It's almost $40 already for a Php 800 amount. Whoah...
It can be tasky at times but it's worth selling. We also sell electronic parts for nickel and some iron parts but we never reach that much.
Now that's what you called profitable!
I'm really happy you have mylot about that. Thanks for sharing your earning experience through trash. And of course if it wrorks for you, continue doing it and earn more, my friend =)

Haha.. Php800 is like almost $45 already!
That's really nice. I do understand where you cming from; and collectin those Coke cans and copper does gives you a higher price when you sell it in the neighborhood junk shop. It is often sell by kilograms.
Continue sharing your thoughts about it and happy mylotting!

i am not rich but i just give away my junk away to kids who earn a living by selling junk. i feel guilty to give them some junk also as i feel that i am responsible for them working in their young age. although i didn't force them to work but somehow i feel that i am encouraging them. but i am lazy, so i just give it to them. what i do is i just save money by not spending too much on unnecessary things.

How nice of you. Instead of giving alms or money to them; you'll teaching them how to be a lowlife **jokes. You're giving them another means of living instead of stealing.
Here in where I'm at; children whose doing the "pangangalakal" or "junk hunt", it teaches them to be an environmentalist in a way and sell it to make it for their needs. Well; we do have social workers but to be honest; the government doesn't have enough funds to support it.
Talking about being tactful and creative and turning trash to treasures; It's kinda ood to feel nice about it rather than seeing them on the streets doing litteraly nothing.
Do Mylot about it more then. Thanks.

This is something that I have done in the past, and I am glad that I am able to do so if I'm being honest with you. I keep all of my empty plastic bottles, papers, and cans, and then every couple of months I will put it in the boot of my car and take it to the recycling plant and get some money back for it. It is only normally a few pounds, however it is worth it when you consider that throwing it away wouldn't have got anything, and it helps the environment by recycling it so it is something that is well worth it from every perspective.

That's really nice! I'll think I'll have to updaye my collection of junk amd make more money from trash. Besides, recycling is also important as we also save the Earth as well.
Happy mylotting about it and be proud shairn it with others as much as I'm doing right now.

I want to do this too but my mother
won't allow me. There are kids always
roaming around in our neighborhood collecting
bottles, papers, and other useful trashes.
They will sell it to the junk shop in exchange
for little money that they can use just to buy food.
These kids are very unfortunate because their
parents don't have jobs either so my mother is very concerned
that these little kids might not have enough to sell
that she won't allow me to collect the trash myself
so she just gives the bottles to these kids so that
they have something to sell. It's like her way of
helping these little kids.

I have been wanting to do this but I don't really know anywhere in my town that you can recycle and get money for it. Plus, my parents don't like junk accumulating at home. I've been wanting to do it though because I want to do my part in helping the environment!
