Life is Unfair

I was out of the office for a long time. I've used up all my paid vacation and sick leaves, and so I incurred leave without pay. But, the dang HR is so way behind in updating my leave record, that for the month that I was to be without pay, I was paid. So, I'm expecting that for this month of May, I won't get any pay because of the leave that I'm not supposed to have been paid. Fine. This May, we're expecting the first half of our 13th month bonus. But, I was informed (well, unofficially) that I might not get my mid year bonus because I have incurred leave without pay for the first semester. So, I'm getting all my bonuses in December (probably November because they're usually handed out early.) We don't get paid for overtime, one because of my position and two, company policy is that you get a compensatory leave (like if you render 8 hours overtime, you get one day leave with pay). My evil of a boss loves making us stay for overtime work (which, in my opinion is not actually a necessity and is a waste of company resource ~ but, hey, I'm not the boss, he is.) So, we render overtime, and get promised that compensatory leave. But, does he sign our compensatory leave forms? No. So, my scenario this May ~ I don't get paid my salary, I don't get my midyear bonus, and I don't even get paid for overtime. Dare I complain? Dare I quit my job? Nah, any of those two would make the matters worse for me. So what can I do? Rant at MyLot.

Sometimes I beat up myself, blaming for for staying in there. It's been years now. But, then, I just can't quit because of all the obligations I need to fulfill ~ debts, bills, and all the more I want to kick my self for getting me in this situation. I hope that I can settle my finances so that it would be easy to just quit anytime.

That really does stink that you are going to have to go without your pay for a month because I know that we all need our wages in order to pay the bills that we incur on a monthly basis. As far as your mid-year bonus goes, not allowing you to have any of that doesn't really seem fair to me either, you would think that they would be able to adapt the amount that you would get based on how much you were actually able to work. But, you should still consider yourself to be lucky because you haven't found yourself to be without a job.

Yes, I'm still lucky I have a job. And the reason I'm sticking with it in spite of all these problems is that I cannot seem to find another job. I will try to but back on all of my expenses just so I could survive this month.

companies are trying to squeeze the most from their workers. if your company is spared from the crisis, then it has no reason to impose those cuts in the salaries or paid compensation. as workers, we understand that the company has to survive the crisis to be able to keep our jobs. but we wish they could do it in humane way, and not kick us out of jobs like a liability.

It's not even the company that is the problem. It is my boss. We are not paid overtime because it is discouraged as a means to save on labor cost, electricity cost etc. But, our boss is so thickheaded that he still makes us work overtime in spite of that, so naturally, we are not paid for that. On hindsight, I do not mind overtime. In fact, in previous jobs I did not mind at all. It's just that aside from the fact that we don't get paid for staying, sometimes, the work we do is not really "emergency" as the boss would like to think it to be. Oh, come on, we've been working on that report for almost a year now. Every time he says, we need it because tomorrow's the deadline, the next day it turns out it isn't. Dang.
