Yesterday on our way home from a convention, my daughter and other youngsters are having chit-chat inside the bus (they're too noisy)
Then, one retired military ask them,
"have you guys eaten exotic foods" ?
Youngsters wants to impress the retired colonel, so they say yes and enumerate exotic foods eg; snakes, frogs, grasshopper etc etc.
Okay, fine, you have eaten all those and I haven't (-_-)
Is that a big deal if I haven't tried any exotic food.
Wait- I know I have tasted a frog would it make me proud of
It's Monday ..enjoy mylotting everyone
jaiho®- still trying to race with time :p

hello ann,
I know I have tasted frog legs and yes, it tasted like chicken.
I also tried to taste the "camaro" I am not sure if that's the right name.
It's an insect, a famous exotic delicacy from "Cabalen" restaurant.
I tried to taste it, but I just can't -hehehe
The frog legs are fried ones- but well, maybe I can taste the adobong palaka too -hehehe.
Thanks and have a good day

I've had frog legs too and everyone told me it tasted like chicken but honestly...i really didn't think so at all. To me, it tasted like frog with it's own very distinct taste. If I was blind folded and you taste tested me, I could tell the difference. I was told also that rabbit tastes like chicken and no it does not. It tastes like rabbit. I was told that deer tastes like beef...doesn't.

You made me laugh- thanks (hehehe)
Yes, I don't think those frogs that we see from streets or ditches are edible.
I know even farm rats are considered exotic foods and many like to eat those farm rats.
I know fried frog legs are really tasty
thanks and have a great week

That was long time ago.
More than a decade when I visit my mom in Singapore.
One of her friend invited us for a dinner and they cooked fried frog legs.
And you will be amazed to know that frog legs are too expensive in there huh...
Hmn....I am thinking to culture frogs and export to Singapore

hello jazel,
Honestly, the "ihaw-ihaw" (street foods particularly animals internal parts) are exotic for me.
Maybe because I am not used to eating those.
I even remember the "kwek-kwek" (boiled quail/chicken egg coated with flour dyed with yellow food coloring and deep fried) exotic.
I only come to taste those foods recently (duh- am I too late for those foods- hehehe)

Hi there. I have tasted adobong palaka with spicy hot sauce in it when i was still in the 5th grade. It was the time I had my summer vacation at my mother's parents place. My uncle cook that for me since he said he wanted me to try something new, something I will always remember of their place. When I tried it, it really taste good. At first I as about the vomit seeing those tiny frog legs.
But then I still manage to pick some. And found out it wasn't that bad, it actually taste good.
The other exotic food I tried was the balut. Oh my. I only ate the yellow part since I almost fainted seeing the little chick inside the egg I was holding.... Good thing my husband took the chick out and just let me ate the yellow parts.grabeh!!!

hello jndlponti,
I also tried tasting the "camaro" of Cabalen, one of their exotic delicacies but goodness, I just can't.
There are also other foods that I really tried to taste- but I am not gutsy (duh)
Balut- yes, other countries don't eat this one (anyway, I also do not eat this stuff)
But I have tasted balut and I don't find it very hard to taste because they took the chick first and only gave me the yellow part :)
Thanks and have a great week

I might ganna lose my appetite for about days if ever I ate the whole balut. I just can't believe how they really ate it all and can finish more than two is just one sitting. Oh my my...But they said it has really good vitamins from it. It is even good remedy for stress and lack of sleep.

I have tasted a lot of stuff in my lifetime, particularly because our mother would always cook up something without telling us what it is until dinner's done. I've tried eating frog legs, birds, snakes, locust (grasshopper), rabbits, quails, wild boar (oh this is the best indeed!).
I think it's not really a big deal but I tell you, once you've tasted the wild boar, you'd truly say why it should be tasted. Nothing like the pork meat we have these days, there's no fat and the meat is just great even without a lot of spices and seasoning. Too bad it's already very rare.
I would like to try to taste turtles (sea turtles) and sea cucumbers. My mom tells us that they taste great.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Oh, that's my mom's way. Mouth savoring dishes and you don't know what you're eating until it's gone. I usually would take a hint when bone structures are different but all-in-all she cooks it too well to be noticed. Not to mention that she's my mom, so mothers wouldn't feed their children something bad right?

Frogs are exotic? When did that happen? Frog legs, deer, racoon, rabbit, freshwater fish, squirrel, bear, pheasant etc....all things we ate when camping with my uncle when we were kids....hardly exotic. We cooked them over a campfire at a camp where there was an outhouse and we had to prime the pump in the morning to get water...no hot water unless we boiled it on the campfire...fun times but not exotic. On the other end of the spectrum, my dad's side of the family was wealthy and I recall dinners at my grandmothers and oh my lord....being raised in times when it was only proper to eat everything on your plate and especially if you were in someone else's home....ugh! memories of pigs feet, tripe, anchovies, lamb. All I can say is that rich people have weird taste buds.

Same with anchovies and tripe- these are one of the most common food that we Filipino eat.

Want me to tell you how it felt to eat pig's intestines (chittlins). Well, gag, I couldn't handle it. Not that it tasted bad, but the thought of what came out of them and they felt like I was trying to chew a texture like my tongue! Someone told me they are good if they are cooked right! I'll never know!

I have never really tried things because I wanted to try something exotic. But I have tried some of the things being mentioned here. I had frog legs at a small party when I was in high school that were fried and they did taste a little like chicken. As a kid I would go hunting with my Dad for birds like dove and quail, mostly dove, so I have eaten those. We went duck hunting once and I got a duck which I tried but it was too gamey for me. I have had deer that my grandfather hunted. I have had rabbit that I shot and was fried and was similar to chicken and also at a Moroccan restaurant in San Francisco which was good it was in something like a goulash dish or something. I tried rattle snake appetizer at a restaurant in Arizona and didn't like it at all. I have had buffalo burgers at of all places a ski place in the Northeast U. S. and it was better than a regular hamburger.

I've always been a little timid about eating deermeat cause sometimes it's processed well and sometimes not. If it isn't processed well, it smells dirty or something, gamey I guess you called it. But my brother could process it and cook up the best deer stew!

I have eaten a duck meat and this is a common food here in our country, but not a common menu in our table, because I don't know how to cook one (hehehe)
Maybe if given the chance to try other things- why not as long as it looks edible,
...sometimes looks can deceive especially artistic food presentation.

I have never tasted frog, but, I have heard the legs are delicious, so, if I ever had the chance, I wouldn´t hesitate to do so. What I have eaten is snake, not a great dish, I must say, also crocodile, wich has a good meat, but its texture is not all too pleasant, and ants, a large big-butt species, wich were surpisingly good, like eating almonds. Maybe I will give a chance to frogs, one of this days.

I don't think its such a big deal if you have tasted exotic or weird kind of foods. Some people like experimenting with new tastes just because they are curious (like me), others don't feel like trying new tastes, or are not given the chance. I 've eaten froglegs a couple of times as well. As people mentioned, it kinda tastes like chicken. I've tasted snails as well, they are supposed to be a delicant in french cuisine, however i didn't like them to be honest. Mostly I enjoy any kind of seafood ,even though it's not really considered a weird type of food..
