I've seen a star with a number before the name of the myLotter in discussions. So I was wondering, is there any specific achievements and years spent here in this site for someone to have those 'star' and level-up?

Hello there... That star, its color and the number inside it; are your ratings.. Based on your responses, other members of myLot rate your posts... So make sure you post quality data, refrain from one liner posts, be descriptive as well as informative...
WelCome to myLot... Good Luck!!!

Oh I didn't know that we could rate the answer of a myLotter. That's cool. Thanks for the info, it helped me. :D

But before you can obtain a star,as far as I know, the number next to your name must reach 100.

MyLot explain the star and the ratings here:
http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx
New users cannot rate others until they have reached a user activity rating (the number beside your username) of 100.
Not only cab we rate responses but also topics and comments.

When you reach 100 posts, the ratings of your comments and discussions will be shown near your name that is if you have posted a lot of good quality discussions. And when you have posted then you can use smileys and all while posting discussions and also while responding to discussions.
