Troubleshooting Computer

Hello fellow mylotters, I need your comments about this problem I am having now with my PC. I have my laptop and I want to reformat it because I am not satisfied anymore. It would take so long to respond and it's really drown on so many viruses. Now, I want to reformat it but I don't have the CD to install the OS again. I wondered if I could use my friend's CD that he got when they bought their computer too. What do you think? Is that possible?

if you are talking about a windows os, you should check the windows sticker below your laptop or on your tower to see what version of windows it is for. Like if it is for Windows XP+SP1 you can download it from microsoft and use it to install it in your pc/laptop. If it is old though and doesn't perform well I suggest you to try an Linux distro too ;)

As long as I remember yes. You can easily find an original iso of the windows os you want. just try to find the exact same as the one mentioned on your pc label. Or else your password won't work. About linux distros you can find them on distrowatch.com

what do you mean password? where could i get that? is that included there in downloading OS at microsoft?

first mr. edisonbanglos you mas instal an antivirus first to take away all the virus then re-intal your OS using the CD of your friend so that the CD won't carry the virus that you have in your laptap.

only just an OS cd is enough to get the things done. but a fast way is to make a rescue disk or usb stick for only formatting your system

hello cutefem123.. how to make rescue disk? or how to use usb stick in formatting my PC? is it possible to do it if the PC is in SAFE MODE?

Yes it is possible , but first you check your antivirous update , if it is not updated then first update it and check performance of your laptop .

thank you for your response mate.. this laptop was sold my friend to me and i bought it with the unit, the adapter and other accessories like headset and webcam. I didn't know that the laptop has so many virus already. I can't ask for help to him because he is already in Japan now. I don't have an antivirus on it before so I installed Panda AntiVirus. Yesterday, I tried to turn it on but it can't proceed to desktop. I can't even see my desktop icons and the task bar. I can't access the Task Manager too using Ctrl+Alt+Del and I don't know why. What I did is that I restarted the computer and this time I used the Safe Mode. It's okay there, my PC respond quickly but I want to start it normally that's why I am planning to reformat it but I really don't know what steps to take :( can you assist me? I need my PC in school and I don't yet have money to purchase a new one.. not even here in mylot.com :))
