Poll Discussion what does it really mean?

One of the Don'ts in mylot guidelines in starting a poll discussion which is most of us are aware. But what does it really means? I have seen lots of poll titles but mylot seems to be okay with it. Does the guideline about poll discussion means "it is okay to create a poll title as long as the content of the discussion it not a poll?". Correct me if I am wrong but this is how I see it. Do you have your own interpretation about the said guideline?

OMGosh! I was just about to start a discussion on this when I saw yours! Too funny. I was going to title my discussion IT'S ALL OPEN TO INTERPRETATION. Anyway, since you have started it I will not start another one, I'll respond to yours. Merriam-Websters dictionary defines the word POLL as "a questioning or canvassing of persons selected at random or by quota to obtain information or opinions to be analysed". So, how do you interpret that? And how does your interpretation apply to mylot? My interpretation as it applies to mylot is actually not one but two interpretations. Either every single discussion on here that asks a question is a poll or none of them can actually be proven to be a poll. Let me explain my reasoning behind that. If there is a question in your discussion, no matter if it is in the title or somewhere in the body of the discussion then it conforms to the definition of a poll as defined in the dictionary by Merrim-Webster. On the other hand, even if there is a question anywhere in your discussion the end of the definition says "to be analysed". How does anyone know what you are going to do with your responses? If you do not analyse them, then it is not a poll. If you do analyse them, then it is a poll. But how on earth would anyone know what you are doing with the answers? You may not even read them for all we know.

First, there is a link in the above response to a discussion where admin explains a lot about what happens to and what defines a poll-type topic here. Second, myLot is not for us to post questions that require answers. It is for dicsussions. There is nothing to discuss in a poll. It just gathers results from those particpating while a discussion should be a topic on which we then share and discuss our opinions.

Oh no, I am not suggesting that this will go. I posted that link so that anyone can see for themselves what admin said, rather than copy/pasting his responses and linking to them. I hope it is now clearer

Don't worry mysdianait, I didn't interpret your post negatively. I'm glad that you posted the link and I understood your reasons for doing so. In fact I did go there and I read the discussion and it helped to clear some things up for me. I have found you to be very helpful to me with my experiences so far on this site and have come to trust your advice for making it more enjoyable.

I recently worked out that he's like one of those fast cars which generally flash by you as you labour up the slow lane. His other name (though he'd never admit it, I think) may be 'Gini'.

Thank you so much mysdianait for providing the link. It is indeed very helpful and it is clear what GoAskAlice said about what a poll topic looks like which most users still violates. Thank you for the link

I think Poll Discussions are topic that is shared to others to be discussed or argued. Even I'm new here in mylot I think that's the meaning of Poll Discussions on my side or preference. :D
