England FA had appointed Roy Hodgson as the new England Manager. The FA had cited Roy's international and tournament experience as the key factor in his appointment. For the longest time, Harry Redknapp was seen as the hot favourite for the role. So, the Swiss appointment comes as a surprise. With Euro 2012 to come shortly, one wonders if the new manager has enough time to get to know his team.

Roy Hodgson as England manager is a good appointment. He has all the experience needed to manage a national team - he managed both Switzerland and Finland national teams and brought their best ever achievements including a World Cup round of 16 place for Switzerland. He had club football management experience in 8 countries.
People who don't support the appointment tend to point to his failed role at Liverpool as the reason why they think he is not up to the job. But they never take into consideration what others that he has done in his 26 years' career. His record in management, if it is not outstanding, at least it can be seen as not bad.
Because Redknapp was the perceived candidate to land the job, so Hodgson was compared with him. Although Redknapp is a good coach, he has no experience whatsoever in international football nor in a league that is outside England. It may not be that much a big deal but when both men's management ability is more or less the same, the international experience factor may just make Hodgson a better choice. Furthermore, Hodgson's contract at WBA is running out soon, so it is easy for the FA to make its decision.

Wow I didn't know how extensive Roy Hodgson's experience is. Now I begin to wonder why things didn't go his way at Anfield. It could be the attitude of the players as can be seen in their loss against Fulham where Sktr scored an own goal and handed Fulham their first top flight win at Anfield. An embarrassing night for Liverpool, but returning to the topic, it will be interesting to see Hodgson in action this coming Euro Championships!

Pardew was sacked as West Ham and Southampton manager, but see what he is doing for Newcastle now? AVB was so outstanding for Porto and yet he didn't do as well for Chelsea. Hodgson's Inter and Liverpool experiences are just 2 small black dots in his impressive CV of football.
The England FA is not naive nor ignorant. They could have gone for the popular choice. But they chose Hodgson. If Hodgson fails in the Euro in June, The FA will be blamed for the appointment. If he succeeds, it will be a different reaction. People is very easy with their opinions especially after the result is known. There are always a lot of factors in a success or failure. Even the great Dalglish could not make Liverpool a respected force this season.
Less than 6 weeks before the first ball is kicked, Rooney is banned for the first 2 matches, The position of Terry in the team ... There seem to be a recipe for disaster. Let's see how Hodgson performs. If England is knocked out in the first round, it is expected of Hodgson for most naysayers, so that is not really a surprise.

Delighted by the appointment of Roy Hodgson. He'll bring much needed organisation to the team. Arguably there isn't enough time between now and the Euros but hopefully we'll do well enough so he doesn't get alot of flack from the press and public and he can build from there.

Wow!! That came as a surprise to me. I was really expecting what the media was portraying all along that Harry was a done deal. I am not sure whether this is a good move or not. What Roy has done at Fulham and West Brom is really outstanding. But Liverpool has been a dark spot in his career. So either FA has conceded that on the international stage, England is akin to Fulham or West Brom in the EPL or they are going by the recent run of form of the teams led by Roy and Harry.
What do you say?
Cheers!
