What is skype for?

I am not really sure what it is for, but based on what i hear you can actually make calls using it. Call other computers or other phones, it is useful if you have a business or something.

My sister talks long distance for free (or almost) thanks to skype. I don´t yet know how it is done, but she will teach me when she comes to the city where I live again. In this moment it´s less expensive for her to talk with her children who are in Europe thn to talk to me being in another city of the same country.

first of all you should learn what are programs for before you install them, so you can avoid threats for your pc. Skype is one of the best in call conference, it doesn't have much delay, it's as close to phone as it can get, so far. Facebook chat and yahoomessenger doesnt't have that good calls.

Hello Lady1993 Skype is actually use to make contact with you're relatives abroad. the difference between skype and yahoo messenger is that you can contact relatives in the states or anywhere abroad in their mobile phones and land lines. unlike in yahoo messenger, the person had to be use the computer literally. i hope that helps, Have a nice day

Did I hear it was bought by microsoft? Not sure, anyway it started out to be free and that is a benefit though it was choppy back then if you were talking on the phone. Not sure what it is like now though. Maybe someone that uses it knows.

Skype is quite different from yahoo messenger and all. Firstly you can make calls to mobile phones and anywhere in the world. You just need to buy skype credits. I don't know exactly about the call rates but I think they are cheaper then cellular service providers. Also you can have good quality voice and video chat. But that is the same as in yahoo messenger. Also it is popular because of its ease of use. You can share files photos and play games.
