How much do you save and how do you do it?

Hubby and I were doing some math and figured out that in the past 12 years we have saved $3,120 on his haircuts alone. My Son is 10 now and at one and a half we started cutting his hair so on him we have saved $1000. My Daughter is 7 but only needs her hair cut maybe twice a year so we can add $200 for her. That is all based on $20 a haircut. $4,320 on haircuts alone.
Ive stayed home with the kids so we saved on day care costs. I cook our meals from home and save money that way. The list goes on.

This is one of my favorite discussions in Mylot, saving and frugal living.
I love the way moms, housewives, share ideas to save money. Ideas
Unbelievably pour out and goes on and on.
I require myself to set aside a certain amount every week from the
Weekly budget that my husband gives me. After I put it aside, I
budget the remaining money. I think it is wiser to take the savings
out first from the budget.
Now, I also avoid going out too much with the kids on the weekend
especially to shopping centers. I make it a point that our weekend
activities would be in the park, public play areas, beach or even
just at home where I dont need to spend.
I also love putting in a jar coins or change. This really helps. It may
seem not so helpful but we have saved some money in the bank from
all those coins.
And who doesn't know about using discount coupons and taking
advantage of discounted prices in the supermarket? All moms are
expert on this. Buying in bulk during the sale season or days will
surely save heaps of money.

We are going to parks more and more now days. Its nice weather out. Sometimes we get so restless in our home. We tend to think we need to leave and that leads to us spending money. WE also just got our first change jar with a lid that is really hard to get off. Its fun to watch it grow as we put our change in.
I love that you dont have a credit card. I wish I wasnt completely addicted to mine. We are trying to get to a cash only system but its a hard transition to make.

Hi wonderbook. I agree with you. I do the same thing.
I only live within, or even below, my means. One good
thing about my spending is that I never used or had
any credit card. I just don't like the idea of putting
myself into credit. If I want to buy something, I save
for it. Then I pay cash, never credit. It's funny, but
I don't even know how to use a credit card. I might
apply for an extension card soon though for travel
purposes.

We sould have moderate life. We should not be very stingly nor very extravagent! That's God teaches us in Bible or the Quran. World financial crisis happened due to excessive greediness of some people. I never spend beyond my ability so my credit card bills never ever on pending. God bless.

We save money by doing a lot of small things. My son is still in diapers and we cloth diaper. I get my haircut at a cheaper salon than I used to pre-kids. We are careful with our food budget and try to use everything up. I am trying to sew my son some clothes (although we don't need more clothes for him yet, but we will next year). We avoid buying toys. Gifts are handmade or come off of amazon with gift cards. (We get the gift cards from things like swagbucks).
We're not veyr consistent yet, but we're getting better every month.

I looove swagbucks. It payed for a good chunk of our Christmas last year. Im not as dedicated as I should be on it. I think I could get Christmas for free if I really stuck to it. Im looking for ideas for handmade Christmas gifts for this year. I havent decided what I want to do yet.

our chief source of entertainment comes from the library. it is free, has great books, movies, music, video games, well the list goes on. i never buy a book, ever and the last time we went to see a movie (hubby and i have two daughters) was for free (we traded in our various points for movie tickets and snacks) and that was several years ago.
the library has fairly current movies. i am in line waiting for War Horse and for The Help.
i also shop at thrift stores quite a bit and buy a lot from there. jeans are the best to buy there because they take a long time to wear out.

Our tiny sity has such a small library. I know they are doing everything they can but its still not the resource that I had growing up. Its funny how moving 15 miles away from my parents house can put me in an area where we can use the library. We can pay $80 a year to use their library but that is money we can spend on other things so we dont have that card anymore.

I started trying to save money a long time ago, and I think that I am getting very good at it now. I used to buy expensive things at the supermarkets, but now I am choosing to buy the cheaper brands instead. I save around $30 from doing this, and then I place the money that I have saved into a savings account to help me to save up for an apartment that I am hoping to be able to purchase before the end of this year. I also started making sure that I didn't leave the plugs on around the house, or the lights, and I have found that I have been able to save a fair amount of money on my bills at the end of the month by doing this as often as I possibly can.

I need to unplug things more. Its a convienience thing and its lazy of me to not reach down and just pull the plugs. Especially when I am not using the items every day. I also could use our solar panels more to charge our cell phones and things like that. I need to watch my energy consumption there.

I get books, cds and dvds from the library instead of buying them. I save a huge amount of money that way because I read a lot and I love music and movies. Sometimes I also buy books or old magazines in the second hand shops. The used books cost about a dollar, so it is much cheaper than buying new books. I often buy my clothes in the second hand shops. There are a lot of cheap clothes in those shops, and sometimes I find some nice clothes there. I don't buy underwear or used shoes, but I have bought other things like sweaters and skirts. I have also bought furniture in the second hand shops. I buy huge bags of food for my rabbits instead of the small and expensive bags, and get hay from a farmer instead buying it in the shops.

I love to find a good book in a thrift shop. I also buy used books online. I have a group of people on facebook that sell things like a local yard sale. Its been fun to see the deals right from my own home.

Were right there with you. Our bills keep going up and we are working to keep up let alone get ahead. I just keep on reminding myself that each penny we set aside is one we done need to earn when we need it. Its a hard road but its the one we are on so we might as well make the best of it.

As i did not have any job, i did not have stable income.
By now, i save my pocket money, my scholarship and the pay got from my part-time job. The money can support me a whole year.
As the inflation is great these years here, I do not think save the money is a good way for me. I decide to use it for travelling or some language courses, to improve my own value and prepare for the future job.

That is great that you are able to save so much money. I am currently not working and neither is Randy. Randy is trying to collect disability because of his foot condition and with all of his doctor's appointments and fighting with Social Security I have not been able to work. I do save our change and my earnings that I make online. I put our change into our savings account and my earnings online stay in my paypal account (I am not sure if there is a time limit before I have to pull it out). I try to use coupons as much as possible and am going to see if I can grow a few vegetables out here (I am new to Las Vegas, so I am not sure what will grow here). I will be selling a couple of items through Craig's List and hope to make some money so Randy and I can go see George Jones in concert.

I am getting ready to plant my garden this weekend. I am so excited. I love the magic of watching something grow from nothing. I am going to plant tomatoes, peppers, basil, zuchinni, peas and any other vegis I can find for a great price at the store. Good luck with your garden.
