Why do people think it is easy talking to therapists? I was just recently diagnosed with depression. I was prescribed anti-depressants and have to now see a therapist every week. It is very strange for me because usually I am the one who is listening to my friends' problems and giving them advice; but now, it is me sitting on the couch talking, not listening. I'm not sure how to feel about this. Even when I am in a therapy session, I do not know really what to talk about. Sometimes I wonder if therapy is right for me..

Therapy can be a good thing. Sometimes we need someone that does not know us just to listen and provide some feedback on the situation. It is not easy to begin to share your deepest feelings with a stranger. In time, when you feel comfortable enough it can be a very beneficial experience for you. Therapy is very helpful especially when you have been diagnosed with depression. Do not go through this alone.

I agree with you completely. I think it is easier to get advice from someone that you do not know than from someone that you do. If you try to get advice from someone that you know who knows your situation, it can get a little personal. Where as if you tried to get advice from someone that you don't know, they can only give you the best advice from what they feel might help the situation. I tried to do it alone for many years. But I am just now realizing that I do need help. I'm trying. Thank you for your output.

Personally Therapy is not always the answer if you feel like you are not being heard. I have tried it many times, and even though it has it's great things you can learn from it can also become a distraction. But first learning to even give them a chance to see if they are going to be able to help you is a plus. It does take time but find things you can share with them to maybe help you overcome your depression and move on and become a better person because of it.
