Couples who gain weight together can lose weight together

Like many couples, Tan and I both have gained a rather obvious amount of weight since living together a year ago. For years I maintained a weight of 50kg (110pounds) but now I have loads of clothes that don't fit anymore, and so does he. Just last weekend while we were at the drugstore, there was this coin-operated weighing scale and we decided to see just how much damage has been done. We had a good laugh at our current weights, my 110 pounds now 128, and his 132 now a 145. A couple of months back we thought about losing weight together and planned going to the gym, eating better food, and other stuff. We weren't able to do any of those. On the way home from the drugstore, I challenged him: one month later we'll weigh ourselves again and the person who has lost more weight would win a thousand pesos. He gladly agreed, and was quite certain he's going to win. This bet between us is now motivating us to lose weight, but without doing the obvious things. Just yesterday, he was already suggesting I cook vegetable dishes when in the past he always insisted on meat. I now keep volunteering to walk the dog. We are more eager to work around the house. Even activity in the bedroom has increased. Have you and your spouse/partner gained weight together? What did you do about it? What do you plan on doing? A thousand bucks is motivating Tan and I to win. Would this work for you?

Sounds romantic, imagine being around gyms holding hands and stuff, lol just kidding. But really it's a good way to bond and achieve goals together. But what if I am trying to lose weight and he is trying to gain weight? LOL

Well, I have gained weight since getting married Yes, but I have been able to loose some as well. Most of mine has been Health related, and seriously now trying to get back down maybe about 10-15 more pds to where I feel the Best. My husband has gained some weight, and we have started a weight loss shake program a little over a month ago, and he is loosing more than me as he has more to loose. But doing it together does bring more motivation, and I wish you the Best with yours.

I agree with this, because it is actually something that my partner and I are involved with at the moment. I have lost six and a half stone lately and my partner has managed to lose a little it as well. We put a lot of weight on when we moved in together because we splashed out on nice food and drink and basically didn't stop eating! But now we have decided that we should change our ways and start to exercise and lose weight together. It is much better, and I am actually enjoying myself now more than ever.

Yes, i agree- doing something together- even a very tiring thing like losing weight is made more fun if you do it with someone. Even betting on it would really make you push harder. Good luck to you..
