The pretty girl, you are not pretty actually.

This happened in the bus on my way to work. A lady with a baby got on the bus. There was a pretty girl and an old grandpa were sitting by the window. It was a little crowded. The lady was standing in front of the girl, carrying her baby with difficulty.
The girl seemed that she has not seen that, still listening to her MP3. After a while, the grandpa stood up slowly and had the lady and her baby to sit. The girl remained the same expression. The girl looked very pretty, but I think she is not pretty at all.

There is another side to this coin. I was always taught to stand and offer my seat to a lady.
I rarely go on public transport but one day I went to London. I was on a tube train and I got up and offered my seat to a young girl. She turned on me and said, with a sneer, did I think she was incapable of standing up!!
I was shocked and sat down again and said to her that I was brought up to offer my seat to a lady but obviously I was mistaken in this instance. That brought a few laughs and some clapping from other passengers!
I still offer my seat.

uhhuh just because we are taught that pretty is angelic while a lot of pretty women do not make that team of angels.some pretty women can and do curse worse than a sailor. If she was compassionate she would have leaptg to her feet and said"take my seatMaam"

Yes, that has become a problem in this day and age. Much like a man opening a door for a woman. I've heard some respond in much the same way when it happens. Great reply you gave to the "lady" by the way.
I'm finding it funny how everyone is so quick to judge this young girl when there could be many reasons why she did not offer her seat.

It's so common that people are so rude nowadays. A lady with a baby or an elderly person needs that seat so much more. Of course, it could happen that the teenager doesn't notice anything (like so caught up in a music or book), but that is really visible if she just doesn't care or it really happened.

Yes, I am wondering, what's wrong with the society? Helping others is a good moral, we all know.

We have a saying "Pretty is as pretty does" and you have given a perfect picture of what that means. Good manners never go out of fashion and they do a lot to make a person attractive. She was not. I bet the old grandpa looked like a hero.

Hi, R2R, welcome to MyLot. Yes, that saying has been around a long time. They even used to teach us stuff like that in school. Oh, and "If you cannot say something nice to someone, say nothing at all." I probably learned them about fifty years ago.

She is just pretty outside but ugly inside. There are lots of people in the world who's like that, they act as if they didn't see anything. They have what we call "heart of stone". Upon ignoring the situation, she already got her reward in God's eyes.

I think more and more youngsters should pay attention to their behaviour. Of course, the older, like me should do that first. I often said to my daughter, when you
find someone need help, do what you could.

I've seen such things so many times on city buses here. Before my injury I would always give me seat to elders, pregnant women, or women with young children. Now that would be impossible as I could not stand on a moving bus with my disabled ankle.
I've also been on the other side of that situation, I had my four month old godson on a city bus full of high school kids heading home from school, I made the 45 minute ride to our stop, one arm wrapped around a pole the other clutching him trying to keep my balance. It made me very disappointed in human kind. So I agree the pretty girl was truly very ugly.

I think we should try our best to help others. I often said to my daughter who is already 12 years old: if you found someone need help, do as you could. I am very angry with the girl today. She is about 20 years old,she could offer help, but not. I felt very upset. Anyway, I will do what I could to let others know, in the world, after all,
more warm-hearted people around us.

Fortunately, all young people are not the same. There could be a number of reasons why "pretty girl" did not give up her seat. Maybe she was waiting for a man to offer his seat...maybe she had some sort of disability herself, one that was not clearly visible to others, that would make it difficult for her to stand as well. My guess is that she was just plain rude, but then again, who I am to judge without knowing the whole story.

Yes,more young people are not like that. I agree with you, I really hope there are some proper reasons why she did that. I think there are more people with good manners, our world will be more beautiful.

Oh I thought when I read this at first that you meant the girl was not really pretty but what you meant is that she is only pretty on the outside. Maybe she didnt realize how she was being. I think maybe after the guy gave up his seat for the woman and baby to sit down in maybe that will show her how to use good manners. Perhaps she wasnt taught respect and kindness to others.

odd how p eople will defend the uglyinside pretty girl just because she is pretty, now if she really was pretty she would have leaped to her feet and said "take my seat" to the woman with the baby. Most Americans think pretty means the pretty girl is really angelic when many times she is spoiled silly and very egotistic to boot. u

Then that girl was not taught well. It is sad that teens does not do that anymore. See back then guys would offer seats, teens would offer seats..but now? they act as if they have not seen those who had need it!

I can see she is not pretty as well.
I know some youngsters are not bothered with their surroundings and forgot some good manners.
It is very sad, I have seen a lot too, in the bus, train and other public places where youngsters never help the elders and other people who needs a little help.

It happens in here in my city also. Right now there are many young people are selfish like that. They never give up their seat to women, children, elderly people. They just try to ignore it.
You are right, she looks beautiful but her behavior is so bad. Hope she should learn to improve her behavior in the public area.

This is very quite now a days. I consider that most of the people which include in the new generation are feeling less. It seems that they have strong stone inside them as their heart. I wounder why the people behave so.
I mostly used to give seat to those ones who are very weak to those ones who has kids with them. I believe that these are are the simple lessons that we should study from our childhood days and I consider this not as my duty but I consider as my opportunity to show my respect to them.

I'm sorry but I'm rather selfish when I'm in the metro, too. It's pretty tiring to go through life there, and I'd rather hold onto my seat.
But, yeah. If faced with a pregnant lady and I'm not as tired, I'd give my seat, too.
