"Death Has Come"

Oh my, death has crawled upon me...
Ever so suddenly.
I wait for its call.
And yes I'm quite appalled.
Has there been a mistake?
Was the wrong information underneath the paperweight?
This couldn't possibly be true.
Especially when I was as good as you.
Well I guess it's time for me to accept the truth.
And wait for my immoral punishment of rue.
No! Wait, I don't want to go.
I still have so much to live for.
I don't recall ever doing anything bad.
How could you take me and leave my family sad?
No, I won't go unless I'm dragged down in chains!
I don't care, I can endure the pain.
How can you be so heartless and cruel?
Remembering only your one revengeful rule!
My child is very sick,
From the infectious bite of a tick.
But do you care?
No, you are unaware...
Death has come and I shall delay you no more.
Just tell my son he will see me.... before he turns 4...

Some really great lines here. Spooky, especially with the last line, before he turns 4. I wonder, would you want to haunt him? :D

Thanks.. I really wish I could.. but now I stick more to journal writing and diary entries .. sometimes poetry but more written for special occasions such as holidays and birthdays as gifts, not as leisure for myself.

I love Edgar Allan Poe. My favorite is his 'Tell-Tale Heart'! I also like Stephen King and some of my favorites of his are 'Desperation' and 'Bag of Bones'

This is one of the best dark poetry I have ever read. You write well my friend and I do hope to read more of your works. On print perhaps? Your poetry inspires me to tapped on my creativity again after a long pause from writing. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you so much.. I was amazingly young when I wrote this as an assignment for my Advanced English Lit class in high school. My teacher definitely took us to the depths of literature and once we read/learned a different type, he'd make us try our hand at it and I became quite the word artist. I am happy to have inspired you to write. I'd love to read what you come up with, post here if you can. Happy writing!
