Red is the Color Of Love... So is the Color for Danger! Love & Danger Co-Related

hi friends and lotters I was at the card shop yesterday - to get a couple of Mother's Day cards, and I found that even today, many of the cards on Love have Love Written in RED. Love has almost always been associated with red, I dont know why(though there are many other things too that I dont know about). When returning back, I saw the traffic lights turn RED to indicate you to stop, on many sign boards, I do see Danger written in RED!I assume, RED is a symbolic color for indicating some Danger ahead. And now I am more confused (confusions and me again). The question is - Was RED (okay red heart) used as a Symbol for Love prior to the RED being used for Danger and if that was so, why was red used as the symbol for Danger? Or if Red was for Danger came first, why was it used for Love? are Love and Danger related? Any ideas? Cheers, theSids.

Hi sid, after reading your post I got this theory in my mind. RED is related to 'life' in general. Yes from hospitals to the road whichever related to life is given in red symbol. For the child birth, for indicating diseases most times they use red. Love and danger related to our life. So they used the same color.

Hi thesids, Red is hot and strong, it attracts people easily. Also it denotes power as high end events have a red-carpet welcome. As it attracts poeple it is love and if you didn't notice the red signals, then you are in danger zone. Are they co-related? oh yes, if the person you love is hurt, you feel sad right? In other words, if your love is in danger zone, you would also be with them. Personally i don't like this color but it's my husband's favorite. [em]confused[/em Cheers and please have a cold coffee as you are thinking too much...

Hi jazel Though I never drew any valentine cards nor purchased any until I was 32, I had friends who dis this. I never thought of this co-relation between the Danger or the Love earlier. Hope that this discussion sheds some light and we get to know the reasoning

Hi Sid, It seems what you mentioned is almost true because both should be 'handled with care' or will attract danger. Two days back there was an article and study about women-in-red and when contacted some people majority were commented red is more suitable for women and which indicates red + love and again, not handled with care, will attract danger. Also, it signifies the vigor and boldness when it turns to politics. Hence I think red is something bold as well and it seems much affirmed or determined whenever we sees or think about RED. Sometime cruel and reflects the extrems. In all respectes red should be handled carefully. Thank-s

Hi Sid, Yes, we (family) headed to my native village for 20 days and totally out of range. Back in office yesterday and settling to everything in action. There was some issue with myLot yesterday and I thought it is my local issue but people were little panic as the site didn't perform yesterday. I think the admin should inform the users (if it is a planned maintenance) or something happen all of a sudden, they should come up with a window message, which will promote their credibility. Regards

Oh yes! The thinker's theory again.. Red can represent-power,lust,passion,beauty,love,blood,danger and many things. But when it comes to colors i always choose red. This color can attract or enrage or repel or elevate or do things. It has been representing both the positive and negative connotations. But after thinking (that is what i am supposed to do after seeing this discussion's category), i got this: Red is the color with the longest wavelength and so people used red to show danger is there-so it could propagate to miles even on a gloomy and dull day filled with fog or mist.It was not actually to indicate danger but it was to get people's attention there. That is basically not going to be the color of danger. It is the color of ATTENTION.And attraction?! (WHISTLES)

Hi shrinithi Well, yes, another theory and a few more would surely follow - hope you dont get bored reading my not much sensible theories - in fact most of tham should have belonged to an interest I created by the name sidsasylum, but I realized, the discussions then, dont reach to many of my family here. Maybe off discussion, but I love reading your responses, you have some great words in your dictionary. When we meet at your place or anywhere, would you please share what books you read to get a nice vocabulary... I know it is not an interesting topic to discuss over coffee but... It is the color of ATTENTION.And attraction? Quite so

You and me will get along well... we both are impatient Though I rarely read books, not much in my interests. The last one I had read was ummm... maybe wuthering heights... I prefer reading short stories from charles Dickens, O Henry, Lev Tolstoy. Comics are still in for me As for creating your own interest, you can surely do that but your counts need to be higher... maybe above 500 (in case I am right on that numbers, as numbers and dates always are wrong from me, never was a History student)

Though it is not much sensible-oh actually it is quite sensible, though i would not say very much there.Oh, you had an interest which you created.Alas, i would love to create one but the same worries go on my head-i don't think it will reach many a member. Oh why thanks :)I would take it as a compliment,a sure do compliment i guess, who cares if it's going to heed discussion and the topic? Then i might never have commented back in many of the discussions! Until it is going to give me fun time i would love it!I don't have great words like you and a few others have, but i always am trying to improve it. I don't read many books, maybe the latest one was completing all the 5 books of Chetan Bhagat. It was fair, some were good. But i could not say it was all good and fun!And i wonder how you could always get into coffee stuffs....

Hi Bhai! I think the red heart came before the red light. I think red is being used because of it being a bright color. But there is a risk in falling in love. Will the other person love you back? Will it last? So there is always the danger of being hurt.

Red is the color of blood, which is pumped through one's system by the heart. Many think blood comes from the heart, but it only circulates the blood. Red blood/ red heart. Heart/ love. There is the connection.

Red DANGER! The best that I can come up with is that red is a color that attracts attention. When the burners on my electric stove get very hot, they glow red. Fire engines all used to be red until people figured out that red is a dark hue that isn't as visible in the dark as a lighter color.

Hi Bellis Heart is a body organ which pumps blood, blood is red. So that helps me understand the relation of red with the Love and Symbol of heart... but what about the danger?

Hi bro Is it means that love indicates any danger... I don't know much about these colors .. But I read some interesting answers here. He he.. And yes some of them are logical. So no need to repeat them here. I guess few colors having more than one meaning. Like green shows greenery and message of relief. He he

This is quite interesting. I do use red marks too as warning signs and danger zones for safety related cases. But I think that the color red is a mark of something that can easily gets attention to individuals. The red color is striking that everyone will notice it right in there. So putting it as a sign of love, danger or warning is quite relevant because it reiterates attention and is quite striking. I do find red too as a meaning for passion. It just derives a very striking nature. Well, that is my idea of it and I think the reason that the color was chosen for both love and danger isn't to correlate those two things at all. The color is just suitable enough to strike attention which the two things have in common. Just my thoughts!

Hi AgentGulaman I admire the way you put the last few statements And yes, I do agree that the two arent to be mixed up. It is just an instance when they share something in common - the color. And yes dear one, I agree with you that Red is a color which catches the eyes quicker and faste

Yes, yes! It really catches the eyes, especially of my bosses! Whenever they see some red colored parameters in our monitoring sheet, that means I have to do another ton of explanation. By the way, my favorite color is red which made me interested in reading this topic discussion.
5 May 12
I think it is because Red is a very attractive color for the eyes. It will really get your attention. Also, it can be related that our heart, is Red in color because of our blood and muscles. Red = blood.

Red is the symbolic color for Love and Love is associated with the color red because our hearts is red..hehe. Kidding aside, maybe it depends of what people view it. Me, I view the color red as positive. Red is my favorite color.

Hi akobuday Red was my favorite color for a few months when I was in college - it was like I had a tee which I loved beyond anything and it was an impulsive purchase. Many friends teased me for many more months to come. About other memories of Red, I was scared of this color as a kid as I feared the sight of blood. But that is all, I have respect for all preferences of everyone. And yes, I now realize that red is more of a Positive color than a few others

I don't know, that's a really interesting question. I think red is the most dynamic and passionate color, it's the most vibrant as well, and both danger and love have this really intense and passionate feeling to it. That could be a reason.

Hi dorofee Well, logically speaking, this - "both danger and love have this really intense and passionate feeling to it" - makes sense, but then, are there enough people who are passionate about the dangers? or maybe I got you wrong!

You know the two being the same color rather tends to kind to amuse me for some reason. It does really indicate the fact that those who are in love, might be heading right for danger. Because such relationships are really not really simple to say the very least. There are times where love can really be good but there are times where it can hurt. I'm almost certain that whoever created that distinction ages ago, pretty much was making some sort of commentary about something. Love that is broken can mean someone seeing red as well, which is the sign of danger. That is really an interesting social commentary and a devilishly accurate one as well. Love is if nothing else a gateway to either greatness or danger. It depends on what door one chooses.

I think red is a misunderstood color. It is used in so many different ways to mean all kinds of things. I believe that the color red, just means a very strong emotion. Red for hate, red for stop, red for love. Aren't all these meanings strong emotions? I think that is why there is such a variety of things that are associated with red. Just my thoughts.

I think they relate love to red and at the same time warning, because when one is in love, he/she is cautioned of the dangers it might have. Such as when one is so in love, he/she tends to be so possessive and jealous. And sometimes jealousy can make a person act like crazy. Well, that's my opinion sids. But for me love is colored pink!

Hi, Red is my favorite color. As you said red color is the sign of love. In India at the time of marriage many brides wear the red dress. For worshiping we apply red color vermilion(sindoor). It is considered sacred. Our blood is also red. So why it is used for the sign of danger I don't know. It may be related to our life. Because the color of blood is red and blood is very important for being alive. So for showing our life is in danger red color may be used.
