Are all french fries made out of real potato?

I know that french fries are by-products of potato. One day I came across Jollibee and bought myself a value meal. The value meal consisted of a burger, 1 regular order of fries and then a regular soft-drink. At first bite, I was not able to notice that the french fries I was eating tasted different. Although, when I started eating just the fries alone without eating the burger at the same time, I noticed something else. It tasted like sweet potato. I know that technically they both are potatoes but sweet potatoes just would not do. From then on, I figured that not all french fries are made from the real potatoes. Sometimes it would be better to get a bunch of fresh potatoes from the market and then cook them on your own. At least you know that it's real. Haha.

I know how you feel regarding fresh potatoes. My dad is doing that for us and lightly put salt on it. Now that's real -_-")
Have you seen the McDonald's french fries video that doesn't breaks down or decompose?? Watch that if this "real potato" theory still bugs you out.
Welcome to mylot; and enjoy healthier diet ^____^-)

Yes, i think i saw that video sometimes ago too. It's so creepy. How can the fries and burger still look the same after weeks left in jar? Talk about synthetic food.

Either it's from potatoes or from sweet potatoes, it doesn't matter because both tastes good. A friend once told me that they had a field trip in McDonald's and she told me that their fries are actually made form sweet potatoes. That really surprised me because I thought too that all french fries came from potatoes. But even if it's from potatoes o sweet potatoes, I still love its taste. My favorite is from McDonalds because it's so crispy and tasty even though it's just twenty-five pesos.

Yeah, I noticed that too, it's sweet potato, real potato taste really different. And that's one reason why I rarely buy fries from that store. I only trusted KFC fries and some potato fries store.

Exactly true. By the way Welcome to Mylot dear. french fries on fast foods are absolutely not real french fries and they are loaded of sodium preservatives, and cholesterol that are deadly specially the sulfur nitrite. I bet your idea on buying fresh potatoes is much more healthy than of fast food. But I love Jollibee's french fries over McDonald's cause they are much more crispy and tasty.

Thanks for welcoming me Arviez. I think I may need to settle to buying potatoes from the supermarket whenever I have the time. At least I'm sure that it's real like what the other guys mentioned. :)

If French Fries are make of real potatoes, then they wouldn't taste like sh*t like those you bought from fast food joints. Only those you make it at home with bag of real potatoes from store, peel the skin and fry them in your pan are the real things. Other than that, the french fries come along with your ordered fast food items usually contain potatoes, preservatives, coloring, and all sorts of chemical additives, other than just real potatoes, whose know what else are added into the making process to make them taste like that, for sure they are not going to tell you about their special recipe.

I noticed the same thing on Jollibee's french fries too. I confirmed the rumor on time on our supply chain management class back in college. Our professor used to be the purchasing manager for Jollibee and he kinda mentioned that trivia that Jollibee's french fries are not made from 100% potatoes. A percentage of it is actually sweet potatoes (kamote in local lingo). But it's still yummy anyway.

Well, it wouldn't matter much if they tried to make french fries as normally as possible, as long as they're OK for your body. You wouldn't increase the risk of getting a heart attack by eating a normal french fry as much as eating a sweet potato fry, eh?
