For a good writer ideas is more important with the idea to express them. This is the one of the very important think for a good writer and I think that you can achieve by regular practices. No one becomes his best when he start doing his job. He comes best only when he have regular practices of them.

Have you tried having a notebook where you can write down the ideas that pop up when you read and see something interesting?
Ideas may come when you talk with others too. It can be good to have that notebook available as much as you can, or some paper to write on before you forget the idea..
When you feel like writing, you can check your notebook and choose something you want to write about and do more research if needed - then just write..
Wish you many creative ideas!

I hold on to my notebook too. I guess we writers think just the same :)

i don't write as much as i used to but i read a lot and i keep a notebook in which i put ideas in. i also find that watching tv and people watching sometimes can spark something that will give you ideas. if you need help too, there are free writing sites that can give you writing prompts too. i only write non fiction but i am sure the same would work for pretty much any genre.

It is quite a bummer when you stumbled upon the dreaded writer's block. Why not try using a picture prompt? It is an old school methodology, but it works. To raise the level even more, get yourself a pack of tarot cards; you are not going to use it for psychic reading. The cards have their own meaning both right side up and upside down; the cards will also give a different meaning depending with their positions in the spread.

Well, if you are writing for articles, then i would suggest you to read magazines. Thats what i do. When I'm all out of fresh ideas i would go read magazines and get my inspirations from there. And by then, if i still can't think of anything, i would just take an article from a magazine and alter it drastically. For story writing, i just read books. Most of the time I prefer to read novels. Not only can i gain inspiration, i can also enjoy while doing it.

Well there are many ways to get ideas to write about, or at least inspiration to really write. I tend to step away from the computer for a moment and look around my room/office. There are just sometimes where I see objects that are lying around my room, that could really inspire some good ideas right on my writing and just get the juices of creativity flowing.
Also there is really nothing better than a nice walk outdoors right in nature. One of the best sources of inspiration is nature, as there is just so much right out there, where I can really just draw from and enjoy and really be happy about. Things that put a smile right on my face each and every moment of the day. It is difficult to get out of these writing droughts but it can be done by just searching out inspiration.

I have to say that sometimes, I do go in the dumps of the writing stages and I would often stay in that phrase for a period of time. It happens to me and sometimes, i really can't fight it when it happens. My advice is don't push yourself. maybe you need time to develop your ideas. It's good to write something, however how little or small or you can keep it in your head and play with it You will never know when and how inspiration will strike.
But even with waiting, you need to give yourself a deadline. Writing is a process and you must continue with the next step. Ge yourself a good deadline to start working on the idea and continue improving it until the piece is s satisfactory to you,.

I have many interests. I usually write medical articles but I often get stuck. What I do is I take a break and start on something new like poems or just opinions. These stuff do not earn much but sometimes they do. Anyway, when I try the medical article again I tend to find out that I am not stuck at all. I guess, all I need is a break to make things clear for me.
As for new ideas, whenever I do some research on a particular subject. I gain ideas on a related topic. I just jot these ideas on my notebook then when I find myself out of anything to write, I simply check out these saved ideas. Well, this works for me ;)

Whenever I seem to run out of ideas or topics to write about, I always take the occasion as an opportunity to have a break. I usually stop awhile, doing nothing, thinking about nothing, and keeping my mind blank. Soon, like a good friend who comes for an unannounced visit, bearing good news, an idea will come. Sometimes, I will read the newspaper, or a magazine, or a book. I always find reading has this ability to stimulate my brain. Again, an idea or two will soon come.

I have never been stuck for ideas. This is not a boast, just a fact. I am writing for forty years now and my brain has paid its price. I have Parkinson's now and while most of the experts say that Parkinson's is degenerative and caused by a damaged brain as well as poisons from the environment and radiation, which I believe, I cannot stop writing. As far as ideas, because I write both books and articles I can switch if I get a little heavy with the novel and do the light writing like comments and answers.

I listen to instrumental songs because it calms my soul. When I'm calm my brain is active to imagination. From that imagination I select the best plot. People may find it weird but it's how I get ideas for my writing. I love writing stories specially romance. I'm dreaming one day I'll become a movie writer.
