Gastric Bypass

Has anyone ever had or considered gastric bypass? I am wondering because to be completely honest I have considered it. The idea is scary though. I have had surgery before 3 c-sections. But I kind of feel like gastric bypass is cheating, please don't think I am being rude because I am not trying to be. I think if you medically can not lose weight without the help the I understand, but like with me I don't really have anything wrong with me besides my breathing, so I feel like I am just wanting the lazy way to lose weight...not to mention their are the other factors, cost, healing time, and the evident change that takes place so fast. So is it worth it, or no.

Hi SissyRose! Gastric bypass is an invasive procedure and it appears to be scary though proven to be safe. I think you need to consult a doctor first. For the MD to assess you, have the necessary labs, blood chem, BMI. Are you from the US of America? Because there are insurance plans that covers such procedure provided that you may be able to meet their criteria and also the their State Mandate. Good luck

Thank you. Yes I am from the US. I haven't checked yet to see if my insurance covers this or not. but I am sure that I would qualify for the surgery because I am at a BMI of 43. I am 24 and I weigh 226 pounds and my hieght is 5'1..I am super over wieght..lol I need help but I feel lazy even thinking about attempting this surgery,

It's perfectly normal to be lazy at times lol. Just think of the good things that the surgery will bring to you. You should see a doctor to have you check especially that you have problems in breathing. It can mean something.

Ya I know. But sittin on the computer for a certain amount of time is not easy for me. I have questions in my head and so I type them out and get off the net because my kids are usually begging for me to do stuff. or things need cleaned. I have 2 kids that are still at home and one that gets out of school at 3 in the afternoon. So staying on for a long time is hard.

Sometimes I wonder if I should at least think about doing it! I am so sick of being obese and getting nowhere! Now I have acid relex and no matter if I eat well or not I am a mess! I am taking a pill for it but I feel crappy alot! I have alot of bowel movements, somedays, too! I can't find my medium! I try and I try! I am frustrated! If not this maybe I should see if I could get a lap band! I feel like a big fricking train wreck!

I have to be completely honest that the idea of the lap band makes me uncomfortable. I mean the idea of a major surgery period makes me that way. But the lap band is a physcial thing that is going to be inside you. I don't know it's kind of like those birth controls that are inserted for a certain amount of time. they just all make me uneasy.

Hi SissyRose, My neighbor just had this done and, personally, I think he's crazy for it! He is trying to talk me into having it done but I tell him that I like food too much. I think that if someone truly wants to lose weight they can do it without surgery. I used to weigh 340 pounds (neighbor did not know me then) and I weigh about 215 right now. I didn't stop eating anything (except fast food for first six months, I do eat on occasion now), I just cut back on how much I ate. And on the weekends I would allow myself to cheat a bit. You can't deny yourself for a long period of time because this is what causes people to give up. And I danced for exercise. Just around the house. I have always been on the chunky side, even as a child so I will probably never be real thin but I definitely feel better than I did. And I absolutely hate the words "diet" and "dieting". It is changing your eating habits, "lifestyle change".
