Do you sell all of your old movies that you don't watch any more or books that you don't read any more? Me and my husband when we have movies that we have watched that people buy us or we get and no longer want them we take them to a used movie store in town and get money for selling them to the store. This is a good way for us to buy our daughter's movies as well. We get all of her movies from this used store because its cheaper then going to a normal store and buying the movies. Now my husband he loves to read and I don't so when he has books that he has finished reading or doesn't like we go to a used book store as well and sell those books for a little extra cash. We have found this is a good way to making some extra cash when we need it. If people forget to give us gift a repiete to bring the the movie or books back some place won't take them so we just sell them for the money. We normally use the money for food, diapers or wipes when we are low on money.

Awhile back I sold a bunch of VCR movies to a place that buys movies and CD's. I am thinking about going through me CD's and getting rid of a bunch. Taking them up to that place would be well worth it. Thanks for the reminder.

That is understandable. I just didn't have room to keep all of mine. Plus I was able to get a lot of those movies downloaded onto CD's. Sure made it nice.

We live in a 2 story apartment so store in our place is every few and and with a 15 month and another baby on the way it's so hard to keep movies and books that we big people don't want little kids getting into and destroying so we got ride all of it so it's less of stress for us it clears out more room and before we know it our house of 4 is going to be a house of 5 so by the day this place is getting smaller till we get a bigger place if and when we can afford it. I hate locking things away from my daughter. She knows not to play with her movies but if she does and they get broken or something we can easily replace by going to the used store and the same with her books.

Where I live they will not take VHS at all they will only take dvd's which is okay because my parents have all of my old VHS movies from when I was kid. I started with all the kid movies before I had my daughter well before we had her. There is no needs for movies in my house since we get all of them on the tv anyways through netflix.

My daughter does that pretty regularly. I don't buy movies often and have only a few. The very few ones that I buy are ones that I want to keep for myself and the grandkids. Kids like watching movies over and over so I have some disney and other really good animated ones. The last one I bought was The Labarynth which I just love. Like books, there are very few that I'd watch twice and then I'd probably just rent it again if I really felt the urge to watch it again. They just take up space really. If I watch a movie again, it is usually one that I haven't seen in 20 or more years...usually more. I recently rented Love Story. I read the book as a young teen and saw the movie when it first came out. It was kind of cool to watch it again through adult eyes all these years later.

Oh and books...that's actually a great idea and I might just start selling them. I buy them 2nd hand usually anyway. If they are really good, I pass them on to a friend but I always have a pile of them that just are not that good in my opinion. Someone might like them. I usually donate but I can always use some extra cash so I may just look into finding a place to sell them. Thanks for the thought!

Oh yeah we can always use the extra cash over here as we well. If it collecting dust and its not kid stuff then we don't want it any more. We get ride of it. All we have books and movies wise is all things that my daughter either will enjoy as she gets bigger or already does. Most of the time we don't buy movies since we have a nice big family a lot of them will buy us things with out asking if we want them so even if its new kid clothes that we don't like then I bring them to the kids used store because they will always take none used stuff to sell and I only do that if the place they came from won't take them or the person doesn't remember where it came from. I rather get kid's clothes then toys. My mom loves buying movies for her grand kids she'll get one kid something then get the rest something because she feels bad if she buys a little something for one but not the others even if we are 9 hours from them I have trouble saying no to people that get things for my daughter and new baby. I just don't say anything because I feel like I'm hurting there feelings if I say no I don't like it. If someone gives me or my husband a book we try to read it and if we don't like it we bring it to the used store and if they won't take it we donated the same with old clothes that we can't resell.

Just say thank you and enjoy all the gifts. Even if you don't like them there is grace in the way you accept it. You can give it to someone more needy than you. One man's rubbish is another man's livelihood. Don't waste. And good that you are selling clothes. DON'T however give away your books. Your grand kids wlll grow up and you can read to them and tell them why you thought the books were special enough to keep for them. As with John Steinbeck's book The Grapes of Wrath which I read maybe twenty years ago the first time, and then went to buy another copy so I could give each kid a book. Children grow up very quickly; before you know it they have grown out of everything, but hopefully not grown up not loving books.

Most times we used to have old books and cd as such in a bag. If someone in our family needs those we would lend them to them for using. If those present as such without no one in need of it we would just sell them in used books. Sometimes I used to buy books in used book store too which I can't get in new book store or highly expensive.

my mom always bought used books when I was little and still does she had tones of books in her closet but my dad told she couldn't do that at all because she never got ride of them. So now she just gives them to the libary unless she things me or my husband will read them. I don't read my husband does and I tell we can't keep this stuff because we don't have the room for it with having two kids soon. So we don't really watch movies unless there kid movies so we got ride of all of ours and just netflix what we like for ourselves.,

True but you can't get all of those movies on the net you have to get them okay before they are able to put them online other wise they can be take down with in hours of being put up. I don't sell them to people I sell them to a store and some people prefer a hard copy then a net copy. As much as its easier to find movies on the internet it can still be a pain at the same time. Netflix I know doesn't have all of the movies and some are only up for a short time and then they are not back some are just seasonal throw the holiday's like Christmas movies. I find it easy just to get ride of all the movies me and my husband don't watch any more and keep the ones that are okay for my daughter to watch which at her of 15 month her interest in movies isn't that often but we still keep them so we don't have to get them again later down the road. It also makes it easy to travel with them. We don't have ipod's with movies on them just music no ipad's either.

That is good idea to sell the old movies which I never thought for. But I am not sure how much people would be eager to take those old movies when it is available in internet.

I don't care how good the movie is. We don't have time to watch movies in my house we have a 15 month and a baby on the way so we never get to watch movies. The only movies we watch are kid movies and I don't read I don't like reading my husband he loves to read just never reads the books he has over again so why not get ride of them? We live in apartment and that just takes up space with 4 people already and adding a 5th on is making the space even smaller.

NO I'm not a collector I don't collect anything and either does my husband. There is things for enjoyment but to me collecting things its just another wast of space and money and dust. In other peoples homes and I think fine but my own not a fan of. I'm an odd women so I don't collect anything at all not even sport things. There are books and movies I love and will love to reread and watch if I had the time but as a stay at home mom with a 15 months and being 21 weeks pregnant that time is used for sleep.

Well we need the extra mommy. We have one little one and another little one coming and some times it's hard to make ends meet so you have to get ride of things. We resell our daughters clothes and the place were we buy her clothes because you can find outfits a dollar a piece which can be nice and affordable at times especially when you don't have a lot of money to work with. Little kids grow so fast out of there clothes and the good thing is more then half of her clothes and our son's clothes have been bought by other family members or hand me downs.

Yep and I know every time I go to resell the clothes that the stores might not take them which is then okay because if a family member wants something i do have that didn't sell they can have or I can sell it online get a small amount of money for a lot of clothes. I sold last time over a 100 outfits of my daughter all different sizes for $35 which that person got a great deal on because for that amount of outfits I could have gotten more but they are baby clothes and they will get beat up pretty quick or stained.

Yes the store we go to they will resurface the dc's for you if they do not work you have 2 weeks to bring them back. The more things you get at once the longer you have to bring them back but if you get one thing at a time you have 2 weeks. So if it doesn't work then you can trade it in for another movie or something else in the store that adds up to the same price or get your money back.

Well how do you know your kids will like the books that you like. I don't like the books my mom reads or what my dad reads. It's pointless to keep books that you like and let them collect dust but that is me. I don't have the space where I like to keep all the books that me and my husband like. We keep kid's books and that is it and the rest are gone sold for money which we can use that money for a lot of things.

I sell all my old books that are not of my choice or are school or college books etc.But I never sell the books that are of my interest or those that I like most and read again and again.Such books are kept in my own home library.I have many old movies as well, but I can't sell them, because I don't know if there is any shop that buys such cds.I agree with you that we can get enough money by selling old books, newspapers and cds of old movies for the times of need.

You will be surprised what used stores will take. But we don't keep any books I hate reading my husband is really the only one that likes to read in the house but all they do is collect dust so I make him get ride of them with having two kids that money goes a long away for something. I've sold back all of my old school books when I was done with them years ago and I sell all of the books I read even the ones of my interested I don't have time to read and when I do I rather sleep.

Oh, I have one side of our tv stand filled with DVDs that I don't think we'll ever watch again. I would consider selling them, and probably just keep a few good ones that I could have my kids watch when they're big enough to understand the story. Movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean..etc. I'm not very sure if these will be readily available in dvd stores a few years down the road.

We keep all the kid movies and we got ride of all of mine and my husbands movies so all we have kid movies for our kids to watch that people buy us or we get for our daughter at the used store. We do enjoy some kid movies from when we where little that we have for our daughter and our son. I go to the used store to get my nephew movies for his birthday and stuff that my parents or his parents have trouble finding and can't get because they are expensive still or are always out of stock.

Movies like that are on Ebay and stuff. You not going to find them at used stores. I hate that vs of babies in toyland I like the cartoon one. I wasn't talking about like old kid movies just kid movies in general and clothes and stuff they can be hard to get a good price and video games as well. A lot of the old Disney movies are always coming back out so we get them when we can at the used store. We got my nephew a $4 which is Kung Fu Panda which came out more recent so its normally like $15 still in the store or little less that an $15 but you can't beat getting movie for $4 that is more recent. Some of the movies have never been open if your lucky to find one. Which we have a few time. Got my daughter last week $11 movie that was the newest Tinkerbell movie that just came out and I saw it in store for like $20 still.

That's right. It's hard to find older movies that would be good for our kids. I once had a favorite movie entitled "Babes in Toyland", with Drew Barrymore and Keanu Reeves, who were still teen starts, that time. I could only remember what fun I had while watching it. I think I was still in grade school then, some 20 years ago. I can't find a CD or DVD of it, anymore. And, I don't know how to download it online. I would really want my daughters to see it, too.

I don't sell my books or my movies. I moved two years ago and gave over 500 books away and also took some literary quarterlies to a book store where I told them they could have it for free. I wanted the books which are all Canadian content to have a house and not just give them to people who would not appreciate it. I have also given away spindles and spindles of DVDs. I did not have space for all the movies and books, and so gave away music, movies and books, some in VHS for classics like The Godfather and Midnight Cowboy, some on DVD. The books I kept are all to do with philosophy, writing, religion, and some really great novels. I must admit I gave someone Shalimar the Clown by Salman Rushie; also a brilliant writer.

We moved two years ago and since then we have had a baby so there is no time for books, and movies any more for us in our small places that we have and another baby on the way we just don't need to wast the space or have dust building up. Heck with giving it way for free things going away free aren't always looked or taken care as well as someone buying it off of you. We sell all of our old things to the store especially kid's clothes because man they get expensive when you have little ones. I hate reading and these days no body wants VHS not even to keep in there house because they are so out dated by now.

Yeah we don't have room to keep everything where we live right now and our daughter just gets all up in them so we get ride of things we don't have time for. I don't have any movies so I don't have to get rid of them. I do have a lot of books though and after I have read them I give them to someone else. I have thought of taking them to a used book store in the area, but I am disabled and it would probably be too hard for me, but it is a good idea. I refuse to just throw them away, and sometimes I will donate them to the Library or to Goodwill. I do keep Stephen King books though. I kind of collect them, and always get 1 or 2 for Christmas!

We sell all of our books to for money. We kind of need the extra cash with having another baby that needs diapers and stuff. If I couldn't bring the books myself I would have someone do it for me that I trusted to sell the books and give me the money. I make my husband carry all the heavy stuff right night books movies and clothes if we don't need them they are going some where either to be sold or given away for free.

we get old movies watch them then sometimes sell them then and many times we did want them back after they where gone to watch over. some good old movies are hard to find anymore. but yes we sell them also and books to. I try to keep my books of interest more than my movies for I can just go back to as craft books and Bible stuff and some others. we to use the money for food and things we need. I do not give alot for movies or books when I buy them and right now we have cut way back on buying and looking forward in selling more. prices of food and needs are more important right now and between gas and other things prices keep going up..

I never want ours back and if we do we just go to the used store and find a copy there. But normally we can get and find all of those online or through streaming through netflix they have a lot of old and new movies and its always changing and adding new stuff so that is perfect for me and my husband. We just keep the kid movies for our daughter and our son and the same with kid books we keep them and get ride of the rest.

There are plenty of used book stores where you can just go to and they will check out your books and give you cash on the spot for them. We don't just wait around to see how comes to use online to sell anything really so we just go to the stores which aren't far from where we live and they will give us the best for our money.
