i think, discussing about SEO matter thru forums are good since u can ask directly to SEO experts and you get to understand better too. There are course available to learn SEO, that is why SEO service are expensive too.. because they are the people who drive the traffic to your site and brings revenue for the website. However learning SEO for personal use is not that hard. Just spend sometimes to read lots of articles and simple step by step guide on how to increase SEO for your website.

Have you tried reading books from Amazon(they have really cheap second hand books). You can also start off small and slowly grow with experience and trial and error. There are 100's of books out there, I would look for good reviews and also something inexpensive as a start.
