Liverpool who had triumphed in the UK and Europe .. with a collection of 18 champions league titles striving to be the most however, finally passed by the Manchester united .. owner of 5 Champions League titles .. become the third most successful European clubs after madrid and Milan ..
In the early 2000's, there are big four terms, ie chelsea, arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool .. however, the last two years, liverpool decline, his position was eventually replaced by Manchester city ..
Moreover, after the death of Xabi Alonso, and Fernando Torres,Liverpool game that is life .. Steven Gerrard, who now lives become the foundation livepool .. with the players that are very minimal, if Liverpool could rise again, like in the heyday of the '80s with Ian Rush ..?

Liverpool can surely rise again as a force not just in England but in Europe as well. With its rich history, its fan base, they are just a team waiting for the right moment. Too bad it has to take its time. But they are better equipped to succeed than any other teams.
Liverpool was awesome in the 70-80's - so yes, it has been a long wait of nearly 30 years! A whole generation! Perhaps what Liverpool needs to do to be a title contender in the shortest time possible is to do a Chelsea or Manchester City. Get a big name manager, buy as many good players as other teams can sell, try to play them as a team with a goal to have a shoot at the title in 2 seasons. At the same time, develop a good youth academy to supply home grown talents. I think that is the modern day formula for a quick rise in status for a football club.
Of course they can still take the route of building up a team patiently like what Ferguson and Wenger have done with their teams. But it will take time and it may take another generation before it produces result. If you are not strong, no star players will want to join you. If you don't win anything, your star players will want to go to teams that win. It is the facts, You just have to accept it and work on it.

I have always been a strong fan of Liverpool and they do have great potential to expand their fan base to other countries as well such as Asia.
I agree that if Liverpool wants to be a serious title contender which they haven't been throughout this season, they need much funding like how Manchester City is getting from its owner. With tonight's match, they are just one step closer to winning the title.

It took Chelsea and Manchester City 2 seasons to win the EPL title after an aggressive and drastic recruitment and transformation in their players. Let's see if Liverpool could secure such massive investments to make things happen. Hopefully they could re-establish their standing as one of the top 5 EPL teams before they could generate enough momentum to move forward further before any changes in their ownership.

I think this season was clear epitome of the malady that has struck the Liverpool FC. These days they are a good Cup Competition club, but not a league club. They have a team that can play well on a given day, but cannot last the grind of a whole season. Their home form has really been awful with them losing even to middle level clubs. But by the same token, they have played games when they have beaten the top clubs on their day.
I think the club needs to rebuild both the team and the reputation of a top club in Europe. They still have a long way to go at least given the way things shape up right now.
Cheers!

Even though I'm a United fan I think we can't imagine of a EPL season without Liverpool as one of the challengers for the title. Especially this year was a weird one for Liverpool, even though they won a title against Cardiff the team seems to have dropped a level since the Benitez era. Alonso, Torres and Mascherano left the club and the replacements didn't match the expectations. I just hope that next year Liverpool would have some good signings and they'll come back to the higher level of EPL.

In my opinion, the rot started during Souness time. Houllier and Benitez looks like they had woke the giant up but that was a false alarm. As rightly mentioned, the only world class player in the current rank is Gerrard. If they are to be back hunting for glory, the Reds will need have more of such players. Btw, the original big four/five were Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd, Everton and Tottenham. Had Nottingham Forest kept up, they were be in the bracket.
