Why Do Christians Think Their Living God Is Locked in the Pages of Some Book?

That's what makes me angry at pastors/preachers/etc. who say 'The Word of God' is 'The Bible.' That's like saying "Gun-ownership is Murder."
i.e. Owning a gun might be part of a murderer's life, but gun-ownership is not what makes him a murderer!
Drawing my comparison closer: printing 'Holy Bible' on a publication does not make it 'the Word of God.' The Word of God is the action that lives among us. If the action you see is not the action you would speak-into-existence if YOU were God, don't give it the light of your words!
But why do pastors/preachers/etc. deny themselves & -their fellowship that light?

I do believe the bible does have words spoken by Christ. And I do believe the bible is the Word. In the beginning was the Word, the word was with God and the word was god... I believe that. I also believe the Word lives within those who have accepted Christ as their savior. Christ reconciles us with God, no?
Saying all of the above, I don't have all the answers. I struggle with my faith day to day. I consider myself a free thinker, so I don't believe everything written in the bible to be the absolute truth. I believe there are different truths... like spiritual truth, abstract truth, figurative truth and so on.... for instance, faith moving mountains... we know that mountains can't move.. but we may have mountains in our lives that we can move.
I don't believe in religiosity at all. Yet, I have a sweet relationship with God for myself. My relationship may not be the same as someone else's... but it's mine.

I have told many people this because I don't believe in the bible. I think people change it too much and call it "newly translated holy scriptures" which most people believe because no one reads the whole thing when they go to church, they let the leader of the church read it and explain it to them.
Now, what I tell people is that it is used to control others. A lot of people question the bible because there are things that seem to "change with the times". I believe that faith in god and being right can be done without a book telling you what is supposedly his word and religious leaders who can tell you whatever they want.
I have wondered why people say that God's only words are in that book and when talking about God and his intentions will reference that book without ever having spoken to God themselves or prayed more than they do in a church. Looking at it that way, it is like they believe God is a material possession rather than a living god. I don't think God or belief in him is wrong, but religion and the translations of the bible seem like the world's biggest and greatest scam.

That's why the 'Golden Rule' is "Do unto others as you would do unto yourself" (or something ... I'm sure all the religions have something similar to that).
i.e. if God instructs you to harm someone, it's only because they would harm themselves anyway

Pastors, Preachers, Priests, Bishops and Popes, believe the Bible, word for word because they were taught that way. These clerics have no room to think on their own. Its all a Great Scam for collecting money, which explains the quandary the Pope is in. Nothing must change! Women must not be allowed to gain an inch inside the church, because that would constitute change which could bring the house of cards tumbling down!

I agree with you about Bible as The Word Of GOD.
A lot of people have Bible at their home but it was just like an ordinary book they had. SOme of them never read it.
Then we argue we must read our Bible. But most people read it like reading a magazine or novel without really know what does it meant. They never try to understand it and saying that it is enough to read the Bible. Then they brag about that they have read the Bible from cover to cover a lot of time but if we ask them what did they understand about the Bible, they kept silent because they never understand what they read.
Bible only become the word of GOD if we try to understand the context in the bible. Each verse have different meaning in our life. Some same verse will give different meaning when we look for another time. So the word of GOD in the Bible only become Word Of GOD if we live with it.

I may not be the most qualified to speak on this since i am an atheist but i hope you still take my comments into account though they are biased. I was raised a Christian but in my early teens stopped because i had grown tired of the religion and the hypocrisy of the parish. I believe that the bible isnt exactly a book written by a man while a God spoke but rather a guideline through allegories to live your own life. You should take in account the stories and use the moral lessons in life and not take them literally because as in all literature the true meaning is an underlying theme not seen by looking at words but only by interpreting them yourselves.
