Falling behind and failing in college...

In the fall of 2011, I was very much pregnant, in fact, I had my son on October 22. I was on bedrest my entire pregnancy and ended up having to pawn everything I owned to pay rent. In doing so, I had no way to complete my courses or drop them, putting me on acidemic probation. This semester has been extremely hard as well, I have not been able to keep up with everything as well as I would have liked to. I failed a class and now I will no longer be able to attend college. I have been told to appeal the school, I have doctors notes and a letter from my landlord stating that I was behind in rent, resulting in pawning what I had in order to pay her. Have you ever had to appeal your school? How would I go about doing that? It's a small community college, there arent' many students.

I am sure if you show them all of those documents and let them understand your situation they will give you a chance. That is a very hard situation to be in.. I hope you can still continue school.

Small colleges are difficult to appeal and succed because even if you do appeal they will have immese difficultly of providing any finacial aid. To appeal, go to the payments and billing office.

oh...seems your caught between priorities at the moment. Don't you have somebody to help you, parents or the father of your baby? Being at this stage isn't easy. I have been there, I had an account in school due to health problems of my mom.On the day of our graduation I had begged to our school that they should let me be acknowledged as graduate of this year despite of my account. I have promised to pay them. Now I am saving money for it.

why you can't attend to college anymore? if you haven't been to your classes because of your pregnancy, all your subjects will be marked 'dropped'. That means you didn't pass it hence you need to take it again. I guess it's not right if your school would refuse to accept you if you wish to enroll again. Tell me everything so I could help you. Are you from Philippines too?

I have not had to, but I know two people who did. Based on their experiences I can assume you will be fine in your appeal. One had major medical and family issues as you did, and he was able to stay. My other friend appealed, but did not have a solid excuse besides making up some stories about family issues and depression (he was really just partying too much). The school did not accept his appeal. As long as you have solid documentation to back up your story it should be fine.

i think if you appeal, the school will understand your situation. you don't have to repeat the courses that you think you learn enough to pass them. request for reconsideration and tell them that you are willing to submit to them requirements that need to be complied to be able to pass the courses. i wish you the best in your appeal.
