RAM on Toshiba

I have a Toshiba laptops with a type U205 S5034, Win XP MCE Operating System, RAM 2x512Mb, VGA intel GMA 950, Processor C2D 1,6 GHz. I have problem when upgrading RAM to 2Gb single chip. When i turn on laptop will not boot just a black screen (Blank), but if use RAM 2X 512 Mb no problem. Can anyone help me?

I think that you should read on your user's manual if your laptop supports single chip 2gb RAM. You could also check their official website about it. If it does then try to see if the RAM speed/frequency is also supported by your unit. Once again, this could be found in the manual or in their website. Now if it does, you have to make sure that this RAM is not defective. One way to find out is to try in on another unit that can run and support it.

Make sure the ram is inserted properly into your computer. If so, maybe you have exceeded the maximum ram you can put in the computer, or it doesn't support the type of ram you are trying to install.

check if the RAM is inserted properly. This occurs due to improper insertion or no RAM.
Also check the manual if the problem still persists but Core 2 Duo compatible motherboards can access this amount of RAM pretty easily.
So better be sure of the former one. You can take out and reinsert the RAM or try by interchanging the Slot.
