Noodles for lunch

For lunch at work the other day, I just bought four small cheese bread & a cup noodle. The noodle was in my drawer for several days already so that I will have something to eat if I feel hungry. But since I feel lazy bringing lunch with me, and it's too hot to go outside to buy something... I poured on hot water and seasonings on the noodle, waited for it to be cooked, just to realized it's not a noodle soup! It's Mi Goreng (in Malay, fried noodles) so I ended up draining the hot water with all its seasonings already mixed in it. It's tasteless but anyway, I still had to eat it, don't wanna be hungry.

Hi godmom The only good (and unfair) thing is that I am not working at your office... coz if I was... you wouldnt ever have had a noodle pack anywhere near your workdesk and as such... there wouldnt have been any such mishaps Well, when I mess up with noodles, I try to pacify those taste buds using some sauce (tomato is always available as I dont like tomato sauce in the raw form- so it stays safe)... adding pepper and or extra salt and a little of green chilly or chilly sauce can help too... If you dont find them in sachets, you can ask your office mates if they have any spare...

I have no lunchmate that day Well, though that gives me an opportunity to order a big Pizza all for me... if I was closer to your place, I would have sent you some home-made lunch that I had done for me.. I can always share with you dear godmom

Hi godson I remembered I didn't opened the chilli sauce because I didn't want it to taste so spicy... but then when I messed up, I put some of it. It became spicy but still taste wasn't so nice. I didn't put all the chilli sauce. I have no lunchmate that day, that's why I had to eat bread and noodles.

Yea I might have ate it anyways as a soup if it were possible. All that draining of the seasonings will make it taste bland I'm sure. Did you end up frying the noodles instead?

Nope, I drained it coz. There is no pan in the office so there is no way for me to fry it. I had to eat it even though it doesn't taste that good since all its flavors are gone.

I would have eaten it too. Better than nothing at all. I love noodles and the variety they have concocted wherever in Asia. I try not to eat them too much though. It's not too healthy. But it does keep hunger at bay in some days, and it's light if you're on a strict diet. :)

yup. noodles and the like are coated with some kind of wax to make it firm otherwise it would easily break. Now imagine what wax would do to you if you eat it. hehehe Why do companies always give us unhealthy but delicious food?

Oh noodles are great since they are easy and quick to cook but still delicious. Cup noodles only look good in commercials though, they rarely taste great.

Yeah sometimes it lacks seasonings. The one in pouch are tastier than those cup noodles. BUt cup noodles are still better to bring to work in times we don't have food at work. =)

I don't think it can feel safe from the hunger you have. I usually used to have a plate of rice with curies at afternoon get get rid my hunger. A pack of noodles do not help me to do it. Does the noodles helped you to get rid of the hunger ?

Yes it has helped me. Actually I feel full already since I ate 3 cheese breads too with the noodles. Aside from that, I had taken rice on my breakfast which made me feel less hungry. In fact, I have thought of doing this kind of lunch every Thursday, since my lunchmate won't be with me during Thursdays. I don't like eating a full meal alone.

You could have probably just ate the noodles with the water and the seasoning. It would have just been like a noodle soup, except the noodles were a bit fried rather than boiled.

I tried to taste it but I feel it doesn't taste really nice with the soup on, so I drained it. I waited for a few minutes more to make the noodle soft. But the taste still isn't nice.

yeah, this happens when the noodles is not intended to be a noodle soup. the ingredients do not compliment it and it will be too late for when you drain it, along goes the taste of the said noodle. :D better luck next time and always check.

Yeah I must read it first before putting the seasonings. That way even if I have already put the water, I still have the seasoning for me to put or set aside for a while.

Oh, then i am a greedy type...i eat rice for breakfast too but if eat noodle at noon, i will be very hungry at 4-5 pm. You don't eat much at noon and bread or noodles is good for you then.

Hi ryanong, I used to eat rice as my breakfast in the morning, whenever I feel lazy taking packed lunch with me. I would instead bring with me some bread or noodles to eat at lunch. Noodles can actually make us full. Coz when I take rice as a lunch, I used to eat very less.

Haha. It's always better to read instructions first before you open it. I always read intructions for noodles even if I already have an idea how to cook it. That's because diffeent bands and different products have different ways to be cooked.

Hi butterscotsh, Yes you are right. Different brands and products have different ways to tell consumers about the way their products can be cooked. They also have different types of labels which we sometimes mistook one as a soup or one that must be drained. And it's my mistake not to read it, I just looked at the packaging and didn't even read it much

Haha! Lesson: It pays to read the label. Friendly advice though, please don't make it a habit eating instant noodles as they will later on damage your kidneys. If you need to, soak the noodles first in hot water and drain. The hot water will dissolve the plastic enveloped in every noodle strand in the instant noodle. You can mix the seasoning on the second hot water you pour in.

Hi Jer, Lesson: It pays to read the label. LoL! Next time I must not forget to read the label. I've read about that method of cooking, will try to do it next time. But for instant fried noodle, it's not necessary to put hot water again after draining the first one, i think it would be very soft and not really nice eating a really soft noodle.

Hi shibham, Yes I've been so busy with a lot of things and got less time to come online. But am trying to come at least a few hours a day here. For me, I'd better eat something even it is tasteless than be hungry. I feel weak when I don't eat. This noodle or bread things will happen for me once a week.

Before I used to eat a heavy meal and then go out to buy burger at a near burger machine otuside the office. But this building don't have any near fast food where I can at least buy a burger. I would love to have one so I can sometimes eat burger instead of noodles if I don't feel like bringing "baon" with me.
